The only one I ever regret buying is Wicked. I had it in my posssesion for about an hour and then I asked myself, "Why'd I buy this piece of crap?" What a waste of twenty dollars.
I was somewhat disappointed with Godspell (another Schwartz masterpiece) and The Scarlet Pimpernel, but I never regretted buying them. I just didn't think they were fabulous. So it was just Wicked.

Buy? Oh yeah I remember doing that a long time ago before Al Gore invented the internet! :)
Regret downloading? Mamma Mia A waste of bandwith.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 8:38pmWell, if we're going to discuss cast recordings we regret spending time downloading then I have to say the revival of "YAGMCB". There were one or two songs I really liked but it was too cute for me and some of the voices irritated me.

I'm buying YAGMCB just so I can hear Roger Bart. I've heard clips, and he's adorable as Snoopy.
I haven't bought Wicked, but the clips I've heard on amazon.com don't sound good at all.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 9:14pmLupone..........she was OK. Patinkin.............NOOOOOOOOOOO. I hate his voice. I would rather listen to a cd of Macey Grey over and over and over again instead of listing to Pastinkin again (and I hate, hate Macey Grey). He is a great actor, horrible singer.

With both Lupone and Patinkin, it is such a you hate em or love em syndrome that they possess.
More so with Patinkin. I have never met someone who didn't either worship his voice or despise it.
I think he is a treasure.

Spider -
You think Madonna sang the role of Evita better than Patti Lupone? Banderas can't sing... The film was a sad and embarrassing mess, if you ask me. But everyone has a right to their own opinions :)

Posted: 8/17/04 at 9:19pmIn my defense, I heard the movie soundtrack first and fell in love with it. Then when I heard the cast recording, I was like BLAH. But, it is the same with anything. You usually like the first thing better, because that is what you are used to. BTW, I love Patti in SWEENEY TODD.

There are two for me:
1. Whistle Down Wind (is there a THE in that?)
2. Little Shop (revival...)
#44re: cast recordings you regret buying
Posted: 8/17/04 at 9:28pmYes............it is WISTLE DOWN THE WIND. I love that cd (although I can not stand the southern accents, and I am southern). But, I can see why you wouldn't like it.

Wicked (Aside from Popular, What is this Feeling and As Long As You're Mine, I don't think I've listened to any other song on the CD the entire way through.)
Rocky Horror Show - OLC (Like the one before the movie with the drawn CD cover. God.)
Mamma Mia I enjoy ABBA to an extent, but the London cast has such shoddy voices, that it's an insult to the Bway and Cdn casts that they're stuck shilling a CD that'll leave the audience with a worse impression of the show.
Boy From Oz I haven't listen to a single song for more than 30 seconds, except for that Jarrod Emick song.
Miss Saigon Why, God, why?
"Good luck returning my ass!" - Wilhemina Slater
"This is my breakfast, lunch and f***ing dinner right here. I'm not even f***in' joking." - Colin Farrell

Gov...check out "Mandy Patinkin Sings Sondheim"
It is superb. And I love the continous flow from song to song. He never stops singing.

The Boy From Oz (I only listen to I Go To Rio, and Once Before I Go)
Not to re-open a can of worms, but the Wicked OBC is wonderful once you listen to the songs at least once through.
Tiff- Try to listen to The Wizard and I, Defying Gravity, No One Mourns The Wicked, One Short Day, and For Good. Not for nothing, but they are all good songs in my opinion.
