Wow! It's GREAT that everyone has such different tastes! God Bless America!
Some of your lists of "don't likes" are among my favorites!!
Of all of the cast recordings that I have (probably 100ish) I'd have to say that my least favorites are Steel Pier, Seussical, and Mack and Mabel. Mostly, I find things I like in just about anything...but maybe I'm too easy!

Posted: 8/18/04 at 9:22amYeah, Mack & Mabel is one I hardly listen to, as well. I like "I won't send roses" on it, but then (who else?) Anthony Warlow did it on his album so now I hardly listen to the original. Updated On: 8/18/04 at 09:22 AM

I regret buying:
1) My Life With Albertine- There are one or two songs I like, but I can't get into this recording at all, no matter how much I listen to it.
2) Boy From Oz- Again, I like a few songs. Will it be one that makes frequent trips out of my CD case? Not really.
3) La Boheme- Alright, I guess this isn't exactly in the same category since it's an opera. I don't exactly *regret* buying it, but it's something I'll listen to just for study music or while I'm cleaning.
4) Wicked- I have downloaded many songs- and I only really like 2 in the entire CD. Could have just downloaded it.
(And for the record, I Loved Steel Pier- it's all over this thread.
)

Posted: 8/18/04 at 9:48amyou know why i dislike the la boheme cd? i actually love la boheme, i have several recordings of it and am very familiar with the music. but the broadway version keeps switching singers every few tracks because of that damn rotating cast. could you imagine if they did that for a different show and they kept switching leads every few tracks? it's very distracting.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 10:05amI don't believe in having regrets, Possums, but if I HAD bought the CD to The Baker's Wife, I'd probably be pretty upset...I just don't see the appeal of that show. I used to have a roomate who was a musical theatre performer and he ALWAYS warmed up in the shower by singing Proud Lady and I just hate that song - its such an ugly piece of music (in my opinion)...it drove me crazy to hear him sing that piece on a daily basis! (though I do like Meadowlark - probably the one good thing to come out of that show)

MY GOD, Do I ABSOLUTELY HATE the Into the Woods revival CD. It may be because I grew up with the original cast. It may be because I have watched that movie hundreds of times. Or it may be just because that cast SUCKED. Laura Benanti was the only one worth listening to. It was a freakin CD and Vanessa Williams was off-key!!!! I'll never understand it...
I have to admit, I hated The Scarlet Pimpernel after I bought it. At first I only listened to Terrance Mann. I thought that Doug Sills talked too much instead of sang, the music didn't go together (half was pure pop, half was old English ballroom tunes, if you know what i mean) and the Marguerite's voice really annoyed me. But then I forced myself to listen to it, because so many people told me that they loved it. And then I started to as well. True, I don't listen to all the songs (the old English ballroom sounding songs. I really hate Creation of Man I think it needs to die. And Only Love needs to stay just a Linda Eder song. And Believe needs to be hanged as well), but I've fallen in love with Doug Sills and I can't get enough of Storybook, and Terry Mann, ugh, God love him.
Well that's my shpeil. Enjoy.

Thank you, LG. I was starting to smart a little bit from all the STEEL PIER hate.
In regards to Mandy Patinkin, I think he has a beautiful voice. However, I can't listen to him because he's so obviously in love with it himself...there's no passion for the lyrics - it's all "Listen to how beautiful my voice is!!! Ohhhhh!!! I can hardly believe it myself!!!" Ewwwww.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 10:52amhaha agreed about mandy patinkin! also .. it's not that i HATE steel pier.. i just have not, for whatever reason, been able to sit still through it. it could be wonderful, i just have never found myself being able to listen to the whole thing.

#90re: cast recordings you regret buying
Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:18amIt is in Korean. There is one section in the opening in which the chorus and the orchestra are not even togehter. It is hideous.

This is a great thread - it is so funny that some of my favorites are on the 'ick' lists of others -
most notably
Sunday in the Park, Wicked, Q
But then again, I usually don't get heavily into a soundtrack until after I see the stage production - everything seems to work much better after you put it all in context. Taken on its own some soundtracks just don't cut it without the dialogue...

OMG, Mister Matt, and I thought that I owned a lot of obscure musicals! Too bad you have so many you don't like!
I have NEVER known anyone else who owned Leonardo-The Absolute Man! Unfortunately, I don't like it any better than you do and I even forgot I owned it to mention in my list!
