there's a topic over on the off-topic forum about cast recordings that are must-buys. which led me to think, i have a couple of cast recordings i haven't bothered to listen to more than once. i'm not saying that these are necessarily bad recordings, but for whatever reason, i simply cannot get into them.
1. fame (north american tour)
2. steel pier
3. saturday night
4. scarlet pimpernel (i hear it's good but i can't get into it)
5. squonk
6. jaques brel is alive and well and living in paris

*tear* jenn and gavin! c'mon!
um....i really love all my cast recordings. i got the synphonic recording of les mis, and i hate it. i think that's it.
I think the only one would have to be The Full Monty. I listened to it once, and never again. It just didn't do anything for me at all. Maybe the show was good, but the music wasn't.
Akiva
Urinetown...
yes gavin and jennifer are very good actors and singers but i just think the recording was badly done and i can't stand the music from fame.
The Robber Bridegroom. That is the twangiest, clangiest, dangiest music I ever heard. (That's bad.)

The music is good but I just can't listen to it without seeing in done live...in other words I'd be fine seeing the show but I just can't get into the music
A Little Night Music
And one that I suggest you buy is actually a show that ran a short while (129 performances) back in the 60's but it's has some great music = It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman!
No one shoot me but...
1) Boy from Oz- While a few songs are great, I just find the majority of it boring. Great voices anyway. I listen to it once in a while, usually sticking to 5 songs or so. Oh well...
2) Aida- I'm not sure why, but I never latched on to this one. I wouldn't have minded seeing it before it closes though.
The Les Mis Symphonic Recording. BLEH.
Hair. It's not that I don't like it, it's okay, I just never caught on to it. And I have a recording of Jesus Christ Superstar (Original London) that I really don't like.
Wow. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED the music for FULL MONTY.
diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, it's all good.
but i am floooored.

ANYTHING GOES-The revival with Patti Lupone
Love the show. Love the music. Love Patti. Love Cole Porter.
Hate Patti as Reno Sweeney.
1. The Lion King
2. Aida
3. The Producers
4. Mamma Mia
I couldn't get into any of these recordings and subsequently I gave the CDs away.

Probably Mamma Mia. I didn't really like Abba to begin with, and hearing other people sing their songs doesn't help too much.
Dottie, Lion King and The Producers? Wow, that's too bad.
hair - except for ronnie dysons rendition of "aquarius" the movie was a vast improvement.
dreamgirls - obc: not because the music's bad but because they butchered the score!
urinetown
The Korean cast recording of EVITA. Oh my.
The Little Shop Revival...I love Hunter Foster but not as Seymour.
korean cast of evita? i'm intrigued! was that in korean or english?
Mythus,
I couldn't believe I didn't like The Producers and The Lion King either, but I guess that's just the way it goes.
Hah Nugget...isn't that interesting though...I guess that's what makes life so interesting, how different we all are. If we all agreed this board would be no fun at all.

"Wicked." And I'm not saying that to rile people up. I truly didn't like it.

Not liking The Producers or The Lion King? ::tear...

That's okay, I understand everyone has different tastes! At least the recordings found good homes.
As for me, I only own like 6 cast recordings so I love them all. I tend to listen to a few more than the others but don't regret buying any of them.

I agree with you Rose_MacShane, there's more on "Wicked" that I don't like than I actually can bare to listen to.
The recording for the Little Shop revival.
*The Producers (I love the show but the music by itself is not that great.
*Amour (I bought it for Chris Fitzgerald, but it's not that gripping)
*Carousel (the original 1940's version, bleck!)
*Kiss Me Kate (the 1998 British version, the revival is awsome!)
