Wouldn't be smarter to close the first week of March because there are limited options for February break?
No. Jan-March are the toughest months to get through financially. They would be losing even MORE money.
Yeah, their closing date is very typical. If they were to close in the Spring, it would be stupid not to wait for the early summer crowds...just as they are waiting for the holiday rush now.
They also get to play the "Final Weeks" card which could very well boost their holiday sales more.
Why did shows like Bonnie (12/30) & Fish (12/29) not close after the New Years performances instead of a day or 2 prior? Just curious.

CINDERELLA and NEWSIES now have many performances available in December on TDF. Not a good sign for family-oriented shows during the holiday season.
The company of CINDERELLA is pretty aware that their show won't be around too much longer.
Cinderella pretty much followed the exact same route as Evita. Opened early in the year with strong sales, then just completely went off the deep end.

@ Mr Roxy, they must have had poor advance sales for New Year's.

Also, when New Year's is early in the week like last year (New Year's Day was a Tuesday) that following week is not necessarily the same guaranteed business draw like it would be if New Year's Day was a Thursday or Friday and the tourists would be more likely to remain through the weekend.

Hope Cinderella is still around in early January. Hoping to catch it with TDF when I'm in town...signs look good.

The entire month of December is not a box office bonanza. In fact, the first couple weeks of the month can actually be quite lackluster. It is really only the final week of the month where sales really take off. To a lesser extent, Christmas week as well.

I think Marianne2 is referring to Spider Man. I edited my post because I was talking about Cinderella which was discussed earlier. I don't care to see Spider Man, at all. Hope Cinderella stays until January. I will in NYC Jan 2-8 and really want to see it.
