I'll agree with that sentiment. I have no doubt that Ms. Ramirez is entertaining, but Ms. O'Hara is creating a work of art.
DG, you said it perfectly. O'Hara gave an artful, touching and ultimately moving performance. She deserved the Tony.

I wanted her to win as well.
i can't believe how she didn't win...she was just magical in "the light in the piazza" and in "dracula" her TONY performance was outstanding..i think she is the real star of "piazza". im in denial...LOL
She is a very well respected performer, and I'm sure in future years she will have one in her hands for some other brilliant performance :0)
She's young, she'll win eventually.
Clark could not be ignored, but Tony has little patience for subtle and masterful musical roles these days.
I was actually talking to my friend about this and said "If it were simply based on singing and being comical, Sara Ramirez would win. If it were based on dramatic acting (clearly a much harder feat than comedic acting), then Kelli O'Hara would win."
I was hoping she would win, just because the parts that I remember most from LITP are between Kelli O'Hara and Matthew Morrison and how great and talented they both were.
Then again, it was kind of predictable that Sara Ramirez would win.

I was at the awards... and teared up a little when she lost... i could swear a little piece inside me died at that moment. I also dont like how people say O SHE IS YOUNG SHE WILL GET ONE SOMEDAY... it shouldnt be about paying dues (which Kelli has... shes been around for a while and been in a couple big shows and a couple Big flops). Sara is also really young... she is the one they should have held off on until she had a role in which she could really do something with it. GAH!!! so pissed and sad... i wanna hug Kelli lol
It's not that I don't think that the awards should be given on that basis, but that I still have hope that she will win one in the future. Despite the disappointment, optimism is the key :0)
i wasnt talking about you pinguin... i know your a supporter of hers... mostly from people who dont know her/ like sara. "Theres always next year..." (but how can you top such an amazing performance?) I <3 Kelli....
someone mentioned her and sara both being young - out of curiousity, how old are each?

". . . dramatic acting (clearly a much harder feat than comedic acting"
I honestly don't know any actors who would agree with this - including myself.
comedic acting may be hard... but I dont think there is much acting in her role in spamalot...
and omg yes... victorias shoutout to kelli was unbelievably sweet and nice. You can tell they are close... their chemistry jumps off the stage.
Nope.

Both Kellie and Sara are quite amazing!!!! Sara is what you call an exceptionally gifted artist. She has great comedic as well as dramatic chops. She is a graduate of the Julliard School. Celebrate her win. Celebrate Kellie's nomination. Aren't we blessed that these two beautiful, talented ladies were honored for the wonderful work they have shared with us this season.
I don't think dramatic acting is harder than comedic acting. I think both are extremely challenging and take exceptional skill. Its very hard to be consistently funny, every night and keep your material fresh and happening, and not everyone has the hops to be funny.
according to IBDB... saras about 29/30 years old... There was no birthdate for Kelli but Id guess a little younger than that.

Absolutely not. I found it a performance without charm or simpatico.

I loved the emotion she showed when Victoria Clark was thanking her, it was SO sincere. I'm also glad she got to perform BEFORE her category was announced too!!!!!!
Also, How much smaller is Kelli's part than Victoria's?????? Just by listening to the cast album, I'd say they're about the same......I wonder what would have happened if you bumped let's say Erin Dilly off and put in Kelli??????
Victoria would have still recieved the Tony. Her performance is stronger in many ways.
Kelli O'Hara is extremely talented, not to mention gorgeous. It's a shame she didn't take home a Tony for her exemplary work in Piazza.
