BAct to Before from Ragtime
There's a Fine Fine Line from Avenue Q
The Human Heart from Once on This Island
Home from the Wiz
Now When the Rain Falls or When I Look at you from the Scarlet Pimpernel
A New Life from J&H
How about Someone to Watch Over Me? Gershwin- Crazy for You
The only song I like from Scarlett Pimp. is "Don't be afraid it's only love"
There are so many good ones...I'm kind of in the same boat as you, except sort of the opposite. I can find ballads no problem it's just the up-tempo that I find difficult.
Here's what I think for ballads... (These are all mostly Mezzo-Soprano....So you have some belting in there too)
I know the truth (Aida)
gimme Gimme (Millie)
Daddy's Son (Ragtime)
Stars and the Moom (Songs for a new World)
and maybe
In My own Little Corner (Cinderella) That one's kind of on the border between ballad and up-tempo i think.
Break a Leg,

someone to watch over me, awesome song, timings hard to get at first (if you've never seen it before) great range in the song 4 a sop! Good luck!
i know this thread is a bit old, but i was wondering if anyone had any more ideas for a ballad for a teenage girl? a lot of these suggestions are really good, but many of them are for older women.
any more ideas?

If you want a good legit piece since "I Know Things Now" isn't very legit you could go with "I'll Know" from Guys and Dolls. That's got a great range and really can showcase your voice. Also look at "My White Knight" from Music Man. Try to stay away from Jason Robert Brown music, not because it's bad (because it's amazing) but a lot of accompanists don't want to sight-read his music and a lot of the stuff from The Last 5 Years is not easy to play. Also, look for stuff that people don't perform often like "Gimme Gimme," anything from "Wicked," "Unexpected Song" etc. Good luck!!
There are so many in WICKED (The Wizard and I, Defying Gravity, Popular, No Good Deed, For Good (duet but can be sung solo), and Im Not That Girl).

I agree with "Astonishing" from Little Women, I hope the sheet music becomes available for that soon.
"Hold On" from the Secret Garden is soooo beautiful! I heart that song! It's a great woman song or "How Could I Ever Know" is good too.

Everyone in my area has been singing "Wicked". Don't do it. If you need a piece, look into the old Rodgers and Hart music. Perfect for teens (hello, I am one!)and are simple to sight read. Good luck!

I am listening to Gimme gimme right now, but I think it is more of a Torch song then a Ballad.
My fav ballad of all time is Meadowlark.
People've said it already, but "Fine Fine Line" from Avenue Q...
They're not kick-ass per sey, but I love "All Grown Up" and "Touch My Soul" and "A Quiet Night At Home" from Bare: A Pop Opera...
"I'm Still Hurting" from TL5Y..but I don't know if that would be considered a ballad..
Actually all my songs, minus FFL, I don't think would be considered ballads..
"only he" from the original starlight express is my personal favorite although it's mad hard to find the sheet music

In college they tell us to never sing songs from LES MISERABLES or PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for auditions. They're overdone and boring.
