I agree, who's idea was it to make the Happy Working Song...not happy?
Really I was expecting some animated critters to come rushing the stage...but nothing, just Amy standing in one spot trying her damned hardest to make it work. She did pretty good, her voice was wonderful and moving her arms helped, but jeez, they couldn't give her SOMETHING!? Did they waste all the animation money on the friggin Bee from Bee Movie presenting animated film?
And I also agree that That's How You Know was in a weird spot for Cheno's range, but she did alright.
Is it me or did La Chenoweth sing that ENTIRE song in her head voice?
- It's just you. It started out in head, but that's about it.
It was not good.
Amy should have sung it.
She sucked. They should have had Amy do it. Kristen made the song sound retarded.
Ljay, no, she did sing most of it in head voice. She almost sounded a little sick to me. Maybe she was just really nervous.
Sorry Brad, but the song was retarded before Kristin sang it. IMO, the whole movie was.
She was clearly nervous, a bit stiff, and not at her best vocally, but overall I think she did quite well. She has this charm, charisma, and infectious smile that is irresistible to me.

I don't think Kristin Chenoweth has ever been terrible lol. Or even bad. There is no way anyone can say flat out that Kristin was bad tonight. If they do, they clearly haven't been to enough high school or community theatres lol.
The criteria for a good/bad performance at the Oscars versus at a high school/community theatre is just a little different.
I think the performance was bad for her and underwhelming for those that were looking forward to it. However, I actually think she was sorta constrained to the Disney sound but also wanting to make it her own and it was just not a good mix. Amy Adams may have been better, but I think they wanted someone who had more range vocally. It was an off night.

For me, all 3 of Enchanteds nominated songs just fell flat. The telecast did not do justice to the songs or movie for that matter. Where was the warmth, charm and ahem.. vocals? They just came across as depressing and dreary on tv.
And congrats to ONCE! That was a beautiful performance and I loved the movie and soundtrack!
Academy did a good job picking best song!
I just felt those two songs just did not work out of context. Oh, and Kristin didn't get to hit a money note.

yea at the end i was expecting that note cuz it seemed to be building up to it but it never came
Horrible performance.
In the context, Enchanted songs are better than Once......but in the ceremony.....
Well, I hope Alan Menken will return with another Disney movie
I love her, but thought it was awful !!! It seemed like she couldnt quite figure out what she wanted to do with the song.

I'm not familiar with Enchanted, and thought the performance was delightful! It's obviously not Cheno's best, but it was good for what it was.

When Kristin uses her true belt voice - it is mainly used for power. she can't be lyrical in her belt tones like the song required. As she got going and it became more rangey, her lovely pop mix worked well. However, I agree that Amy Adams should've sung this instead.
I think part of the problem was that "Happy Working Song" and "That's How You Know" are supposed to be parodies of "Disney" songs. They didn't set up the situation (i.e that in "Happy Working Song" Giselle is getting all the animals to clean up the apartment.) The fun of the song is that it's a joke. If you think it's supposed to be serious it's terrible! (I couldn't help thinking "what does the audience think is going on in this number?")
I agree - some Gabe Barre puppets would have been great! I wasn't that impressed with any of the songs. (And who put Amy in that dress!)

I thought it was just embarrassing that Amy Adams had diddly squat to work with onstage. And I wish Kristen hadn't used her "opera" voice. She needed to let her musical comedy side loose. Every time she sang, "How do I knoooooooow", I was extremely bored.
Was it Amy Adams dancing during the third "Enchanted" song where the pop guy sang? Or just a look-a-like?
I thought all three of The Enchanted song performances were very weak. The last performer, John McLaughlin, was even struggling to hit notes. Maybe they were all just nervous but the performers sure didn't sell the songs.
Dolly - it was a look a like. I'm guessing her stand in from the film. If you look closely you can see she's also a bride in "That's How You Know"
Dolly_Levi, I think it was a lookalike.

Idena did have a song in the film but it was cut. Hope it will be on the DVD release. Hope it was better than the three that got nominated.
And did that guy ruin the third song!
