I hurd the same stuff.
Shneb28...do they happen to teach spelling at your school, Possum?
I didn't know they were doing Little Mermaid on Broadway, but now that I do I have to say:
WHY, OH WHY!? WITH ALL THE TALENTED PLAYWRITES OUT THERE THEY FILL A BROADWAY THEATRE WITH LITTLE MERMAID!? THAT IS AN OUTRAGE,...if I say so myself.
Now I can go cry myself to sleep...

Does it really save that much time to write "hurd" instead of "heard"
A good friend of mine was involved with Disney a few years ago when this was going to happen and was actually just telling me about the design for the show. From what she said it was going to be absolutely beautiful, maybe the most gorgeous thing ever to come to the stage. But the cost was just too much, and people started backing out of it and now it's just put on hold.

oh that would be cool. what if was like the front of the stage in front of the curtain was covered with glass, and they had a thin part of the glass a tank filled with water and fish, so it looked like they were swimming.
They just made Kerry Butler hold her breath. It was like Fear Factor.
OY
Little Mermiad would be any set and costume designers dream. the possibilities you could do with that show.
If we get more Disney shows.....they might as well install moving sidewalks from attraction to attraction!
Do they always choose the shows that seem least likely to work onstage (Little Mermaid, Spiderman, etc.) just to show off some nifty special effects and technical doohaha?
If you want to talk about that, than TARZAN would have taken the cake. Disney had wanted to completely gut a theatre out so they could basicaly turn it into a jungle. From what I understand they were going to take out the balcony for more swinging room. It would have been the ultimate Disney attraction in New York City.
I must agree. I hate how all of a sudden they are talking about making musicals from these blockbuster movies...sorry, but I think for the most part (I'll give you exceptions...but only a few) stage and screen should stay separate. That's what makes the stage so great.

Tarzan WOULD have been? is it cancelled or something?
From what I'm told, Disney is not doing that show anymore. It would have just been too expensive.

I dunno
I for one would have LOVED to see Bob Crowley's designs for Tarzan and how the staging and acrobatics would have been done. But I could be alone here. Sometimes a little spectacle is necessary.

I do have some techie blood in me, and I WOULD be interested to see just how they work it......
i dont!
little mermaid does have good music..i wouldnt mind hearing the new songs they would write if there was a stage show.
But without Howard Ashman being able to co-write them with Menken. It just makes me sad.
