looking for someone to see a show with

Hi, I am coming to NYC for the first time in November (from Oregon) and I would like to see several shows-- Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Clockwork Orange and Book of Mormon for sure. The two friends I was going to go with have backed out but I still want to go. Just wondering if there is anyone who would want to go see any of those with me? My dates are fairly flexible End of October through middle of November.

I love going by myself! Getting 1 great seat is way easier than trying to get 2 or 3 seats together.

I gave up on trying to find reliable people to go to Broadway shows with me. Broadway is popular, but to find another person willing to fork over $150 for a show months from now and have them guarantee they won't back out before then is next to impossible. The best I used to be able to do was get people to commit to a show and a night and then hope they showed up with the cash.

I love New York, but New Yorkers in particular will put their job ahead of social obligations. So after about the 5th time a New York friend backed out of $150 ticket on the day of the show with a simple "what do you want me to do? I have to work late. Can't help it", I gave up. It is simply not worth the aggravation I go by myself and I see what I want when I want and I spend what I'm comfortable with on the tickets. And gues what. I can still meet my friends afterward for drinks. Nobody is gonna back out of that : )

I agree with all the above. I come to NYC annually and since 2012 almost always see shows alone and love it solo unless I'm going with friends who are reliable and I'm compatible with. In fact last year, I made plans to go with someone I met at the Hamilton lottery in 2015 (neither of us won, naturally). Still had a good time, but he turned out to be a Trumpster and kept making unsolicited passes at me throughout the weekend. Plus, I ended up compromising on some of the shows I wanted to see. (I wanted to see Eclipsed) This year I let him and other true friends (who wanted to invite themselves to my vacation; they love how I make the most of my NYC trips) know that I would be too busy to spend much time with them plus they'd have trouble keeping up with me. They got the message and I'll get NYC to myself for 5 1/2 glorious days in November. I'm seeing 6 shows, have reservations at my favorite restaurants, and am saving up for some shopping adventures. My only regret is I won't be there longer.

So, go solo. And enjoy.

I echo what others say. By going alone, you'll have great conversations with strangers (tourists and New Yorkers alike). You might even make new friends.

While I'm sure 99.8% of the folks on here are trustworthy....it only takes one to change your life.

I, too, have almost always gone to shows by myself. I prefer it that way. Last night, I saw the touring production of "An American in Paris" (wonderful, by the by). Had a perfect evening, chatting with the lady on my left and the gentleman on my right before the show and at intermission. Don't be afraid to enjoy your own company. Whatever your decision, be smart and be safe.

Like everyone else is saying - go solo! I am almost always on my own for shows, and I much prefer it. Most of the shows I've gone with others have been on my recommendations and its been hit and miss with them liking it or not. So i'm usually worrying whether they like it or not, instead of just enjoying it myself. You've selected a great group of shows. Go enjoy yourself! You never feel alone in NYC - there's too many people around!! and you can always strike up a conversation with those sitting around you - I've met some really amazing theatre people that way :)

I used to go see B'way shows with one of my closest friends, but she moved to the West Coast six years ago, and doesn't come East that often. So I've started going to shows alone this summer (Sunset, Comet and Dolly yesterday) and LOVE it. My tickets have been great, and there's no hassle on after-theater plans (which I did have with her often; she was a 'controlling individual' to say the least). Now I meet different friends for dinner after the show (I usually do a Sunday matinee) and have a great time.
