re: meanest person @ stage door

I think it's ironic that their name is elphaba.scares.me and we're referring to them as Elphaba. But...that's just me.

...and when he didn't like the way i signed it, he pulled out a bottle of Windex and a rag, sprayed it, wiped it clean, and asked me to do it again.

That's insane and obnoxious. That man needs help.

re: meanest person @ stage door

WOW, elphaba, those people sound just plain obnoxious and rude. I've seen plenty of starstruck little fangirls get really obnoxious, but I can ALMOST see where they're coming from (ALMOST...little kids tend to overreact when they meet their "idols"). But to complain about the way you signed something for them is just plain ridiculous.

re: meanest person @ stage door

I never wait at stage doors anymore, but I used to when I was younger and I've never met anyone even remotely rude. The one that comes to mind, barely, is Sally Field - she wasn't rude but she was kind of just...craked out and strange.

And yes, Elphaba scares me too. My sister wants to see WICKED next week and do the lottery - and I told her that under no circumstances will I wait out there with those crazy, crazy, obnoxious people - they make me NUTS. Wow, way to go off topic...

re: meanest person @ stage door

Ive never really had a bad encounter at the stage door..but I must say to whoever said Neil Patrick Harris was mean...he was totally a sweetheart when I met him after Cabaret...probably one of my best encounters at the stage door. Took time to personalize his auto to me and made sure he spelled my name right (and my friend's)...and took pics with me and her...he even got a good laugh when my friend told him I had a crush on him when I was 13 when he was on Doogie Howser..lol. It was a freaking cold March night too...so it surprised me he was willing to be outside for a while...then again the crowd was about 10 people...most waiting for Debbie Gibson who was equally as sweet...

re: meanest person @ stage door

I hate when people use their children to get autographs. I'm the first person, at a stage door, to tell kids kind of shyly hanging back to come up and squeeze in at the barricades, because I usually just tell the actors in the show "Good job", rather than having a playbill signed. A number of the crazy fans (of whatever show I happen to be at) push & shove, so the younger kids (I'm talking like 6, 7, 8 years old) tend to get pushed back. I'm all for little kids getting in front, but I draw the line when their parents shove the kids past everyone just to get autographs for themselves. It's annoying and what are you teaching your children by doing that ?

*snaps for jezze*

i second that motion. I actually saw a woman push her kid, who was crying, to the front and she got pinned inbetween the people and the barricade. And her mom was yelling at her at the same time. I wanted to slap that woman and just give the little girl a hug. Poor thing.

re: meanest person @ stage door

At the Wicked stage door in April, some creepy balding old guy with a Magic Marker and a Wicked book that was already autographed with a few other people literally pushed through a 6-person-deep crowd, including a handicapped kid just to get to the front of the line, and Kristin C made it a point to ignore him when she saw it happen, and while she was making it down the line, he would continue to push through people to keep up with her and was yelling at her. Finally she was at the end and got into her town car and the guy actually tried to open the car door, then started banging on the window and chase her down the street around the corner.

Then Idina came out, the whole process started over again, except she was walking and didn't have the luxury/refugee of a town car, and gave in just to get him to f*ck off.

Things like that make me really sympathize with some of the Bway celebrities.

Hugh Jackman deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his patience and grace at the BFO stage door!

re: meanest person @ stage door

When I was in the city over the summer for Kristin Chenoweth's last performance in Wicked, I was very shocked and disgusted by the way some people behaved at the stage door. Adults (with children in tow) who would push people out of the way for an autograph. Great example for your kids, right? This one woman standing behind me was especially rude.. she pushed me aside quite a few times and actually tried to grab my playbill out of my hand! lol. Some people can really make the experience unpleasant.

re: meanest person @ stage door

I'm one who doesn't believe that actors are obligated to do the sweet and nice stagedoor thing. I will say, though, that one actor who was a total jerk about it and had a super-inflated ego was Peter Krause when he was in After the Fall this summer. I saw it with a friend who is a big SFU fan and she wanted to say hello and perhaps get a pic with him. We headed back to the stagedoor after the show and there was a grand total of six people waiting. SIX! His obnoxious bodyguard came out first and asked who we were waiting for and when he heard it was Peter, he shouted NO PHOTOS! It was ridiculous. Peter, you're not that big a star. You had six fans at stagedoor. Plus, Carla Gugino was the REAL star of the show, not you.

re: meanest person @ stage door

I agree with you, erin, about performers not being obligated to sign things. Actors (and the majority of them do) who take the time out to sign things and be genuinely nice to people waiting and sometimes go above and beyond the call of just being courteous (Mr. Hugh Jackman), are much appreciated and acknowledged by me. It makes it all the more special to know that they're not obligated to do it. I always get peeved when I see people shove their playbills into the actors' faces without a word, like they are mindless robots, instead of human beings. I try my hardest when I do get stuff signed to always say "thank you" and pay an honest compliement. It really is just a common courtesy.

re: meanest person @ stage door

Both fans and tourists are obnoxious - to anyone that lives in NYC, you must agree with me on this one. I work in TS and walking 10 blocks, which would normally take like 5 minutes, takes more like 15 because people walk around with their heads up their ass. Imagine all the tourists outside stage doors like WICKED - it's like irritating x 2 - that's what I notice, anyway.

re: meanest person @ stage door

Admittedly, every time I go to New York, I'm a tourist...but seriously, sometimes I just want to tell people that the blinky lights aren't that cool. Move on, 'cause I'm a hurry.

Word, Munku. And this is coming from a tourist, and a BW fan.

Oh i know Munku- i used to live in NYC and got so pissed off at everyone. Yea i understand because it is a really cool place to be if it is your first time, but you dont stop in the middle of the crosswalk to take a picture. Come on people. Now when I go into town I just keep on moving because i remember the feeling.

re: meanest person @ stage door

But, alas, I will always have a little piece of that in my heart, because I remember my first time in NYC when I was a kid, and it was magic. I would never let my attitude or bad mood get in the way of all these people potentially enjoying it for the first time - it's not up to me to make it unpleasant for them - I'll wait until they have to take the E train.

Sorry, Chanandler Bong.

Back on topic!

Once Idina Menzel kicked me in the face and said I was uglifying her air space.

I told her I was sorry and moved out of her way.

I once asked Betty Buckley for an autograph, and she responded by torturing my family and setting fire to my car. I was less than pleased.
