Posted: 6/23/07 at 3:23amSeriously though, a Follies transfer would be great. I'm talking about the Encores! version, not the original. Don't excommunicate me.

If Follies transfer - I will be on the next plane to NYC!
Keeping everything crossed...Follies limited season followed by Guys and Dolls or Porgy & Bess would be great.

Posted: 6/23/07 at 6:29amPerhaps disney listened to it's fans and has decided not to close Beauty & they will transfer it to the Richard Rogers Theatre! That would be great if you ask me! Not only are there less seatsto fill in the Rogers, but (with a new set) could easily fit Beauty's needs.

Posted: 6/23/07 at 6:40amI think three Disney shows (LION KING, POPPINS, MERMAID -- did I miss any?) all at once are enough for Broadway right now. Until one of those three has lived out its run, I'd like to see the few other Broadway theatres we have filled with some new, original musicals, like IN THE HEIGHTS.

It's funny, because I speculated the Rodgers for In the Heights a while back. I have a feeling that's where it will end up. From what I understand, In the Heights wanted the Broadhurst originally, but Les Miz never actually announced an official closing date at the end of the summer like they were supposed to. Hopefully they can go to the Rodgers.
Oh, and jagfkb, as much as I would love for Disney to keep Beauty open, it's not going to happen. I just love that Disney got burned, and I love that Tarzan is closing 30 days before Beauty, and it's such short notice. Too bad Beauty has to take the fall though.

Follies is not going to be produced.
And if by some crazy chance it did, it would not be with the Encores cast.

Posted: 6/23/07 at 7:48amBut with the production team and the fact that they were looking at the Broadhurst, do you think In the Heights would end up in a Nederlander house? Do the Shuberts have their hands in it at all?

Born to Reign, I don't think the Shuberts had gotten involved yet. The producers of In the Heights and production team just liked the Broadhurst for its size. I don't think the organization matters to them yet (or at least it hadn't then).
Foster, I am well aware the show can't run forever, that's why I have accepted that it's closing. I know Disney isn't trying to rearrange everything now to keep it open at the last minute. I do however think that it's unfortunate that a good show that's appealing to people of all ages got screwed because of a bad decision on Disney's part. Oh well, I'm not upset about it, just a little disappointed in Disney's lack of forsight.

Hoping a full scale interior renovation is next for the Rodgers, and a tenant in the spring. The Nederlander Organization did a great job on the theatre's marquee, lobby and the woodwork, but the auditorium itself is still an odd mix of the front of the house and proscenium painted in a dispiriting gun metal grey, while the dome and mezzanine are still painted black. It needs a little TLC before another show moves in.

Thanks for the info, bjh. I didn't know where it stood.
And good point, smaxie. It's looking a little odd in there. Such a well-designed house. I love the rake in the orchestra. I sat row R (got some Tarzan comps so I didn't get to choose) and the view was fine! Too bad more houses weren't built like that.

Posted: 6/23/07 at 10:36amWouldn't the theater be enormous for In The Heights? I've never been inside but from the pictures I've seen, it seems big for a show like that. I'd rather In the Heights go into a smaller theater but then agian, I could be wrong...
