The point of that post wasn't to "enlighten" people that already knew what it was. It was for younger people who may not have even heard if fois gras, let alone how it is manufactured.
And, if you remember, that "lecture" did occur off-topic.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 2:13pmSee...I KNEW it was a lecture! Thanks Professor! Don't despair...you may now have the last word, lol!!
#27re: The Wedding Singer must go
Posted: 5/23/06 at 2:15pmThe word "lecture" was in quotes, lovingly mocking your absurd post. And I don't see how I'm ignorant.
#28re: The Wedding Singer must go
Posted: 5/23/06 at 2:15pmI have no interest to see it anyway. In fact, I have no interest to see any new musical this season. Better waiting for A chorus line and Les Miz revival.

"The Wedding Singer deserves to be around as long as folks fill the seats."
As Clint Eastwood said in "Unforgiven", "deserve has nothing to do with it".
The "Wedding Singer" will remain open as long as people buy enough tickets, whether it "deserves" to or not. Characterizing the people who buy them as undiscriminating goons is as obnoxious as characterizing the people who don't as snobbish, bitter theatre queens. I know it gets boring stating and re-stating your opinion, so there's a natural inclination to spice things up beyond "I like it" or "I don't like it". But going after the character of the group you disagree with is just shabby.
That having been said... "The Drowsy Chaperone" must go, IMO. It's twee, amateurish and one-note. But "the community" loves it almost as much as it loves itself.

THE WEDDING SINGER is a lot of fun and that's all it tries to be.
Laura is very miscast, but Stephen hold the show together very nicely. Amy and Felicia are also amazing, which is obvious. And Rita Gardner and Kevin Cahoon are both fabulous - espeically together.
Get over yourself.

Now really, you have to see it to realize how bad it is. But you might not have to stay through the whole show to come to that conclusion
On the other hand, I'm not for proposing that shows close just because I don't like them. Actors and musicians need all the work they can get and jobs will be scarce when when every show is reduced to a cast of 10 who also play the instruments

Posted: 5/23/06 at 2:43pmokay i guess saying this show needs to close is just my personal opinion busting out, a more accurate statement would be why are people still going to see this show? it's horribly average and unappealing.

Gee, I hope YOU never get a role. And I hope when you do, your show closes and leaves you broke and starving. And I hope people celebrate it. Because, that's what you are doing.
People like it, so it should stay. I mean, isn't this the whole CATS SYNDROME?

Posted: 5/23/06 at 2:50pmbwaybaby, just for respect for the people who enjoyed the show and the cast currently starring in this show(and crew and everyone working at the theatre) you should change the title of this thread, and all of us who liked the show, we shouldn't waste our time feeding this hateful thread.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 3:02pmgreat! a lot of people are very young and don't get the 80's cliches, how old are you?
#40re: The Wedding Singer must go
Posted: 5/23/06 at 3:03pmi'm 31 and got most of the 80's humor - LOVED Felicia's first song and the wind machine...

Posted: 5/23/06 at 3:06pmIt's campy and dumb, but I had a really great time when I saw it; I believe there's a lot to be said for things that are fun and enjoyable, even if they're not very good. The acting, for the most part, is top-notch, the music is catchy, and the show is hilarious.

I enjoyed it because I really liked the music...no, it's not deep, but I think they did a good job parodying the different 80s pop styles (boy bands, hair bands, etc.) I also think the cast is terrific, particularly Felicia Finley, Matthew Saldivar and Kevin Cahoon. I also really enjoyed Stephen Lynch, I thought he nailed his "average guy next door" role. And he's got a great voice.
Disclaimers: I grew up in New Jersey, in the 80s...

Posted: 5/23/06 at 3:08pmWell, you see, there are things about the show you did enjoy, i personally loved Felicia's songs and it was just a funny show, and i love Amy Spanger. She can dance, act and sing like no one else. Stephen was amazing as well as the rest of the cast. The score is upbeat and fun. A good time at the theatre. Not lifechanging theatre, but none of the shows nominated for Tonys are lifechanging either. This season is about entertainment, i guess. Nothing too heavy, well, except maybe The Color Purple.

The movie is one of my favorite films, not one of Sandler's best, but it was decent. The show to me is alot better. cheesy but better. Lynch is a riot (IMO he's better than Sandler). Benanti is adorable and hysterical. And from where I've sat Lynch and Benanti have amazing chemistry. the whole cast does. Felicia alone steals the show, with Cahoon, and Spanger not far behind.
Its nice to see that the youngins have another show to go to like Wicked, and not Disney.(and they treat the stage door like its freaking Wicked. just stop)More people should go seeit and its good enough for the family. and the parents can reminisce about the 80's and what it was like for them. I was born in the mid 80's when this takes place and boy do I get all the stupid jokes..and with some help of VH1's I Love the 80's.
basically if you dont like it. dont see it. but let others enjoy their fun :)

Billy Madison ranks as one of the most annyoing, most horrible, and most offensive movies I have ever seen.
I love Adam Sandler movies.

I'm not going to argue with your opinions of the show (I personally absolutely love both the show and Laura Benanti in it. And I think she and Lynch have wonderful chemistry... maybe you have to be close enough to see their facial expressions. I've never sat anywhere but front row rush seats. But that is my opinion. You are perfectly entitled to yours), I just had to point out an error in your first post. You mentioned Laura being too old for the part... Laura is, in fact, 26. As far as I know, that's not exactly old.
