I like the show simply because it's mindless, goofy fun. The show is fun and I like the fact that it isn't as big of a spectacle as some other shows on Broadway. Just like summer movies, Broadway needs some popcorn shows that appeal to a much more mainstream audience. Most of the songs are catchy, most of the actors and good to passable, and it's just a nice, relaxing way to kill a couple of hours.

Oh my god... I hate to directly attack you, but you are a complete idiot (talking to the original poster... I haven't read the other posts yet). I get SO angry at these vapid and useless posts where someone feels the need to declare their arbitrary hatred for something or someone. First, Laura Benanti is probably one of the youngest members of that cast. And what do you MEAN, for Julia? The character has previously been played by Drew Barrymore in a movie. Laura Benanti originated this role, which is vastly different from the movie version. There's absolutely nothing to compare to.

Second, Stephen is great. He isn't a seasoned Broadway performer like some of the other people on the stage but he's one of the best parts for me. Last, you point out your complete lack of taste if you think a rappin' granny is CLEVER, or if that final Vegas scene is anything but tedious. But much of what comes before is fun. It's not a great show but get over it. Can we just end these stupid threads now?

PS. On a different tangent, I actually find myself agreeing with Muscle! How is the revival of Sweeney Todd life changing?

I wouldn't say Sweeney was life changing, but I could understand why it would affect people. It's a very dark, moody piece. It was beautiful to watch.

On with the thread...

Wedding Singer is a fun show. It's got a great score. I'm sort of indifferent about Laura. Listening to the cast album, I don't think her voice is really great for this score. This type of music needs someone with a more pop voice - a la Amy Spanger. But she does good with the part and she was great when I saw her. If it is not for you, great, but no need to start this threads. You know people are just going to get pissed.

Exactly. It's just hurtful to people who aren't doing anything except trying to entertain you. You knew what you were getting when you walked in, it's The freakin' Wedding Singer.

Affecting? Yes. Life changing?

I mean... just the overall existence of the show Sweeney Todd in whatever incarnation, for someone not yet inducted into the fold of fans, that first experience of Sweeney Todd is potentially life changing. I totally agree there. Changed my life re: please explain why you like The Wedding Singer, i dont get it

The songs are extremely catchy. The choreography is engaging, exciting, and very funny for those who see the references to how we danced back in the 80's. The book is also very witty, and very form-fitting to the movie with plenty of 80's references to enjoy. It's just a FUN show, and I love to have fun.

"Stephen Lynch is a rank amateur on stage and it shows."

The Tony nominators didn't seem to agree.

And unlike the "controversy" of the 4th Best Musical slot, there was no such issue on the Best Leading Actor in a Musical category. There were a number of other fine actors who were qualified for the nomination, and it went to Stephen. So there.

"It has a great score."

You must have a very different definition of "great" than the rest of the english speaking public.

Well, I would actually agree that it has a great score. Anytime you can listen to a cast recording and listen to every song without skipping over some to hear your "favorite" songs, that's a great score. The score is not only catchy and fun, but it also exemplifies the music of the 80s perfectly!

Also, this version of Sweeney Todd...not life changing!

I cant really explain why i love the wedding singer but its really addicting and the cast is probably one the most energetic casts i've ever seen on stage
and laura benanti, despite what ANYONE says, in my opinion, is beautiful in the role of julia
and Felicia Finley...ive never laughed so hard as ive laughed during Letter from Linda...soooo funny

I liked The Wedding Singer -- and I think the score is VERY catchy-probably the best part of the show. I'm guessing the original poster (or those who don't like it) don't like 80s music too much...I happen to like it, and I liked the way the show took on the style of songs that were easy to identify. The book could have been a little stronger, yes. The performers were universally energetic. It was FUN show - it's not serious, it's not life-altering, it's just FUN. Nothing wrong with that.

Wedding Singer Fans: Why don't we let this thread alone until it dissappears? The title itself is offensive.

I usually wouldn't see a musical like this, but I'm friends with Tina Maddigan.

I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, she wasn't on when I saw it, but it was catchy music, funny, fun, good dancing...very enjoyable. And I caught the bouquet!
