posters and frames

hey guys,
so , ok I'm about to take that plunge and start buying a few window cards/posters for a few shows that I want.
my question would be about frames..I'm sure I want to have a frame for each poster. playbill.com has one that seems good, I went on another web site that sells one for 19.95 at https://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/index.php?p=product&id=676&parent=1
is that a good one? I don't need it in wood or gold finish, something adequate and that does the job. What do you guys use, if anything??? need advice, thanks

I love Hollywood Poster Frames! I buy thru their eBay store, and they'll wire the frames for either horizontal or vertical orientation before shipping them to you.

oh, cool. I wanted to know if anyone else has used that web-site. Do you know if the ""economical" ones are good? To tell you the truth, who cares if it's wood or not? Who looks at that anyway?

I have used Quadro frames. They were really great to me. They had to replace part of my last order because the box arrived all busted up, but they replaced the broken frame pieces and broken glass quickly. I actually heard about them here on the BWW message board. They have good prices on 2 or 6 pack frame kits.

I'm cheap. I just buy the plexiglas 18x24 poster frames from wal mart. The ones with the black backing. They're a little bigger than the actual posters, but they're only 12 dollars and they look great as long as they're centered so I don't really care.

Ditto to what CATSNYrevival said, except that I got mine at Target. Found one for about $7.99. It's a little bit bigger than 14x22, but you can still center the poster and it still looks great. I have to get another one soon.

I seem to be the odd one out here... Maybe it's because I buy window cards only for shows I really care about, but I splurge to get them professionally framed. Since I'm here in NYC, I take them to Triton, and they're really not THAT bad...it's been a while, but I don't remember balking at the price. It's worth it to me to have them protected all around ~ protective glass and all that.

Just another voice. :)

Quadroframes uses protective backing and glass, it's just that the frame is cheap plastic. It doesn't matter much, since it is going on the wall and looks fabulous!

I've gotten a few done professionally at Triton as well, they tended to be around $50 each. Which is alright for one or two but if you have say, 10+ things to frame the cost is just way too much when I can get 6 for $50 at Quadro.

Ikea has good prices on all kinds of frames. Also, look at craft stores and online. There are kits that you can customize the size by cutting the frame parts and using corner brackets to hold them together.

I have my posters framed at Michaels and am very pleased with their work. A few times a year they have a 60% off framing and that's when I take the posters in. I have three w/ a fourth waiting for a 60% off sale.

If you're looking for a slightly cheaper option, the Triton Gallery on Ninth Avenue sells a Lucite 14x22 frame for $25 that I usually buy on the odd occasion that I actually buy a windowcard.
They can be seen in the top row of posters in this picture. A friend of mine did the Spamalot windowcard when he worked in a framing shop....I kinda wish he still worked there.

Where is the cheapest place to buy window cards? I've looked on ebay already. Is that basically as cheap as it gets?

Here's another vote for buying in bulk through Hollywood Frames. They're great quality and the cheapest you'll find.

As for cheap windowcards, besides eBay and the bargain bin at Triton, they're pretty much the same cost everywhere (windowcards still in print, that is) so I would recommend going through Triton to get them. Years before I lived in the city I had them shipped and they're amazing and 110% trustworthy.

If you're in the city come September, theres usually some great deals to be found at the BCEFA Flea Market. Got a couple of windowcards for $1 each, and I know there's a company that keeps a truck near the Broadway end that sells frames, don't remember for exactly how much.

That's Triton. They lower their prices for their standard frames from $40 to $25 for the flea market.
