Hi all! I'm curious if anyone knows whether the Tony Awards will affect whether actors appear in their shows during that weekend. I'm seeing Promises, Promises on Friday and Addams Family on Saturday. It'll be okay if they aren't there, but obviously I'd really like it if I didn't see understudies (mainly for Promises, Promises).
Thanks for any help!

I saw Next to Normal the day before the Tony's last year. They all were on. Everyone was at the stage door as well. Except for Jen.
Last year I think most of the West Side Story principles were out that weekend.
Actors with principles should be there.

This question gets asked every year and to the best of my knowledge, performances go on as scheduled. These are professionals!

I have absolutely no doubt that these people are professionals and committed to their jobs. I simply wondered whether things like Tony run-throughs (for, say, Sean Hayes) might affect their schedule at all. I also had an experience where I tried to get a ticket to a show in 2007 and was informed that there were no current shows because, as the somewhat snotty box office teller put it, "It's Tony Week." So basically, I just wasn't sure how the Tonys may or may not affect things.
Which is why I appreciate your responses, so thanks. :)
It's a legitimate question. In general, people are in unless they are not feeling well that weekend (Christine Ebersole for Grey Gardens and Tonya Pinkins in Caroline or Change come to mind). Last year, there were a reasonable number of absences Tonys weekend, although it may have just been bad luck. On Tony day matinee, there were understudies for Tony, Maria, and Anita at West Side Story (and each of them missed one of the Saturday shows as well), I believe Constantine Maroulis missed one of the Saturday shows at Rock of Ages, none of the nominated Billy boys performed at all that weekend, Marc Kudisch was out of 9 to 5 for one show (I think Friday), and I believe Aaron Tveit may have been out on Friday as well.
The main Tonys rehearsal is on Sunday, and there is no performance of Promises Promises scheduled for that day, so you should be all right for Friday. The Addams Family hasn't been announced for a number on the Tonys at all.

How crowded do you think Chicago would be? they are having a show at 7pm the same sunday night as the tonys.

Wow, mikem, I'm impressed by your knowledge! Well, I'm more concerned about the cast for Promises, Promises, so it sounds like it's a little better that I've got a ticket for Friday. Otherwise I'll just cross my fingers that they're all feeling well. :)
I'm seeing the matinee of Sondheim on Sondheim the day of. This little cynic is preparing for Cook to be out.

Attendance has been a lot better since the League adopted the "If you are too sick to work, you are too sick to be on TV" rule.
Wasn't the West Side Story situation last year (where all of them were out) what prompted Laurents to go backstage and chew them out?

I saw Spamalot the day that it won the Tony for best new musical, everyone was in except Sara Ramirez (she had been out sick that whole week and was resting up for the Tonys) and Christopher Sieber (not sure why he was out), the added bonus being that as it was Tony day, Eric Idle was there and I met him before the show as he went in the stage door. The stage door afterwards, however, was slim, the only two that came out were Steve Rosen and Darlene Wilson (Sara's understudy), the rest, we were told, were getting ready for the Tonys.

Please find out why Christoper Sieber was out that day. I won't be able to sleep until I get your answer.

Sounds like the rule they have at a lot of schools for athletes.
