I'll admit that it took me at least a performance to warm up to Spencer's performance, but once I did, I've found him really engaging ever since. I especially love the way he relates with Jennifer for some reason. I think a lot of people are expecting him to *be* Brian D'Arcy James, so he's got that working against him. I guess the point of this is (for those of us who obviously plan on seeing this more than once) give him another chance. It also took me a performance or so to warm to Louis, but now I really love him.
I thought Louis was fantastic. It's a shame he doesn't have much to do though.

I agree, Atrias, however I never saw Brian in the role. I actually quite enjoyed Spencer's performance and agree that he was especially good in his interaction with Damiano's character. I also thought his breakdown during "So Anyway" and "I Am The One (reprise)" were heartbreaking. I was sitting right up front and out of everyone, he was the one who made me cry.
Is someone looking for this photo?

And jay, you may want to delete the picture. As much as everyone would love it, it might get this thread deleted.

Still, even the best production of the material could not rival Billy Elliot, [tos] or The Story of My Life this season for me.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seeing how the last two won't even get nominated, I'm not sure there's much point. Has it even been determined if Story of My Life is ELIGIBLE?

It hasn't been determined yet, but it won't be.
I don't think it's been determined yet (or at least not announced).
AMERICAN BUFFALO's ineligibility was announced right away...so that makes me think STORY may be eligible mainly due to the lack of new musicals this year. In case they need it to slide into a random category just to fill it.
Does it really matter though? It won't be nominated for Best Musical anyway.
If you want anything else from it, jay, I'll gladly scan it. No song list though; as it was at 2ST and I believe at Arena.
Ugh I saw this at 2ST and I FELL IN LOVE with this show, now that it's on Broadway and reading all of these reviews I HATE THAT I have to wait 3 weeks to see it. I might just sell some blood to get there to see it haha :)

It hasn't been announced because they Tony committee hasn't met since then. It will for sure be deemed ineligible. Voters will not have been able to see it.
J. Robert Spencer has grown enormously in this role. I saw changes last night in little things he did that actually made me gasp. I love the choices he makes, particularly at the end when he actually shows emotion throughout Alice's song (don't want to put spoilers in here) while Brian pretty much sat there like a lump until AFTER her exit. I love the combination of shock and sorrow Bobby shows throughout that scene. It makes it more poignant. The way Brian played it, there was no sense of "is this the right thing" in my mind. There is with Bobby's choices.
IMHO, the best thing that could have happened with this cast was that time at Arena. Being together for that time in that environment really seems to have helped them gel as a group. There is a different feeling between them all than there was at Second Stage, and it just works.
In terms of his "chemistry" with Alice... It may not be spark inducing, but remember these characters are people who have been together for 19 years. The chemistry that exists is one that completely makes sense given all the circumstances surrounding their lives. It's there, but more subtle. And for me, subtle in that case is PERFECT.
Didn't realize they hadn't met since it closed.

Are the lyrics of "I've Been" similar to the ones that were in the workshop. (It's on the forbidden site), because the combination of those lyrics, that music, and norber'ts singing made my heart skip a couple of beats, absolutely breathtaking.
