at the end of Rent, you see everyone happy, etc.
what do you think happened then? did maureen break up with Joanne? did Mimi once again sink into drugs and die? did Roger commit suicide?
tell me what you think.

idk if i particularly WANT to know what happened afterwards. like, i like happy endings, and i don't like to know what happens afterwards. am i the only one who feels this way?
Nope. I agree. RENT would be followed by a not-to-happy ending, but that's not the way Jonathan Larson wanted it. He wanted it to inspire, not depress.
Everyone dies when that cow comes crashing back to earth, and lands on the loft. Just like Dr. Romano on ER.

wesley has a relapse, one of the white horses throws a shoe, and humperdink hounded them til the end of time
Its definetly one of those musicals your not supposed to know what happens after. I thikn that was John Larsons intention completely. Its up to the person seeing/listening to decide what happened after.
I agree that it's one of those things that doesn't have a happy ending, but you can think about it. I think that Joanne and Maureen would break up, and Maureen would go back to Mark. I don't even want to think about the Mimi/Roger issue.
I think mimi drops dead right after the finale and no matter how much Mark tries to sing to her shes not coming back.. :)

At the end, April wakes up in the bathroom. She didn't slit her wrists at all, the entire evening was a dream. She laughs, because she hates musicals. "Leave it to me to have a dream where everybody breaks into song."

bobby ewing realizes it was all a dream
I'm going to assume the curtain call occurs
And then the teenies run to the stage door.
Yep, sounds about right to me!

Benny has them all arrested by the police and demolishes their building to build Yuppie condos. Then they have to move to a bad neighborhood in the Bronx and a Starbucks is built on Avenue B where the Life Cafe once stood.
lol
i believe RENt is the perfect play for the 1990s for every aspect of the play. Great story and the ending has been beautiful all 4 times i've seen it
that's nice QFan
i prefer to remember them looking out at the audience and singing "no day but today"
Why are you thinking about it? It's a story. It had a so-called 'happy ending.'
Mark and Roger finally realize how much in love they are with each other and leave together for Santa Fe where they open a small boutique restaurant ! Mimi becomes a nun ! Joanne and Maureen get married and adopt 3 babies and then Joanne becomes a famous TV show presenter and a Broadway producer ! :)
Take care

Moi aussi! No further ending is needed there...
