Worst show I've ever seen? That's a tough one since I usually like most musicals. I've never seen it, but the worst musical I've been in is definately "Footloose." Love the music, absolutely despise the book...so why have I done it twice?

"You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" --Family Guy

"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

Well it's normally really hard for me to be negative about a show because being a performer myself I know how much work goes into a show, but I must say that I was really disappointed with "Steel Pier" it just didn't do anything for me.

The worst thing I have seen on Broadway is the recent MEDEA--I know many loved it, but it was chock full of TERRIBLE acting and inconsistent directing.

i dont know whether to say Dance Of The Vampires or not... simply because it was so bad that it was good... i laughed so hard that I actually got some entertainment value...but yet i hope i never have to sit through something like that again.

Worst Shows:
-Footloose-songs didn't fit with the extremely poorly written book.
-Dance of the Vampires- two words- Total Eclipse- HAHAHAHA
-Mama Mia- What? Dancing Queen...how does that song fit in the show again?

Performances that Made These Shows the Worst I've Ever Seen:
-Marissa Jaret Winokur in Hairspray
-Haley Mills in The King And I

Oh i also want to say Tom Sawyer... the sets were amazing yes and the performances but, the show should have never of been brought to the bway stage let alone such a huge theatre.

Thou Shalt Not was merely mediocre.
But if you want bad you have to go back a little further:
BRING BACK BIRDIE (I've posted this before)---Act One ended with Donald O'Connor sitting on a toilet bowl while a huge latex tongue bobbed up and down lasciviously from a plexiglass cube stage right to the accompaniment of a song played by a punk band called Filth. Unbelievable.
The second travesty is THE HUMAN COMEDY by the folks who brought you HAIR. Truly, this was the worst score (a kind word) I have ever heard in the theater. To call it 'noise' would only dignify it--perhaps 'abortion' would be more accurate. It stopped short of sound. Updated On: 11/3/03 at 11:40 PM

Funny, JRB, I saw Fiona Shaw in Medea. For the last ten minutes, I didn't breathe.

Fiona Shaw is a great actress--and she was good. I didn't think a single other actor in it was--or they were just poorly directed. Screaming all your lines does not equal great acting--which is why Fiona was especially good in contrast with all of her layers and details.

Yes, in any other show (or with better set up) that ending would have been BRILLIANT. It was truly disturbing--but in relation to everything else, it came off as contrived. After I saw the production, I read up on it--to see if my opinion would change. I was even more sure of my feelings when Deborah Warner and Fiona Shaw discussed that Medea was not crazy--she killed her children to protect them from a worse death. I agree with that. I like that they didn't see her as crazy or that the killings were an act of revenge against Jason. However, chasing her kids in their underwear and slashing their throats to sounds of hell hardly matches their supposed intention.

But--I know that there are those who loved it. And, I actually respect theatre and films that have such volatile love/hate reactions! =) Thus, I can respect this production for that--but only for that.

COPACABANA ... Barry Manilow, what were you think? I laughed throughout most of it ... no, it wasn't funny b/c of the jokes ... but b/c I couldn't believe backers would actually put money into this CRAP!
