Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:22pmI think she's much better suited for a small "local summer theater production", Broadway stage (and a huge one like the Gershwin,no less), BAD idea.

I'll second Oklahoma. Or at least the part of it that I was awake for (they lost me for a while in the middle). I'm not sure if it was *this* production, or the play itself that I had a problem with. Probably both. It seems it's okay to kill someone as long as they are bad. And hey, if it happens to be on your wedding day....damn, wouldn't want to let that spoil the festivities. The same sentiment wouldn't bother me in a black comedy, but Oklahoma sells itself as gee-whiz-god-mother-and-apple-pie wholesome America.
That being said, it was STILL tons better than Cinderella (with Eartha Kitt as the Fairy Godmother)...I left at half-time. God, it was dreadful. I am hard pressed to explain why I was there in the first place...there *is* an plausible reason, but not worth taking the space, and in retrospect, not enough of a reason to have gone.

Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:37pmOur theater is huge as well, but maybe it is because it wasn't a Broadway show that she did better. Her fiance Matt was delicious and wonderful as always though :)

Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:49pmI will concur with those who said "My Life with Albertine". It was the most boring show I have ever subjected myself too. And it was a shame, since it had quite the cast. So much talent, yet so little entertainment. I still can't get "all is fair in a ferret world" out of my head, either.

I'm saddened at the general contempt for My Life With Albertine which I totally enjoyed (though I also disliked the "fairy world" or "ferret world" or whatever that song was). Perhaps it is my weakness for Kelli O'Hara (who I also adored in Sweet Smell of Success, which I also thoroughly enjoyed, particularly the "Dirt" number). Perhaps it was Alice Ripley as a bawdy lesbian. In any event, I was totally captivated (except for the last song which was tacked on with the intro saying "I didn't know where to put this song" which is a hint as to the fact that the song shouldn't be there!)
My personal vote for worst show (and I'll admit it WAS early in previews and I hear it improved tremendously) was PASSION. My god, I was about 20 minutes into it and was already praying that she would kill herself so I could GO HOME. I've never been so unhappy in a theater, to my recollection. And I've seen some baaad stuff. A close second (more recent) would be Humble Boy. Even Blair Brown wasn't very good.

Posted: 11/4/03 at 7:14pmAlice Ripley? I don't recall her being in Albertine, but maybe I'm just being forgetful, in which case, ignore this. Are you sure you aren't thinking of Emily Skinner?

Yes, Alice was certainly NOT in Albertine. LOL. Ems was the one playing Mlle. Lea, the lesbian lounge singer. She was quite fabulous in her ONE number, which did happen to be the 11 o'clock one at that.
It seriously amazes me that people confuse Emily and Alice... they look absolutely nothing alike. Coincidentally, I'm watching Freaks right now. The real Daisy and Violet were so freakin' cute. Awww... those poor girls.

DOCTOR JAZZ
5 performance in March, 1975.
Who else was in the audience?
HAPPY NEW YEAR, is another one that comes to mind. 1980. Maybe this is why they tore down the Morosco. Excellent core material, Philip Barry's HOLIDAY, Cole Porter songs, all unimaginitively executed.
Mustn't forgo NICK AND NORA, either.
Bad as those were, I didn't dislike them as much as I truly dislike RENT and URINETOWN.
Yours for a better Broadway!

Posted: 11/5/03 at 12:10amGotta go with "Rent" -- there are many detestable shows with cult followings [Phantom of the Opera, for example] , where I can at least understand why the poor deluded cultists are so mad about the show. "Rent" continues to mystify me, though. I've never heard anyone convincingly present the merits of that show.

I have to say, I didn't enjoy Victor/Victoria.
It wasn't the talent or even the story. I enjoyed the movie, but I guess for me, it wasn't really anything special.
Just a personal opinion...

Worst things I've seen on Broadway? BLACK AND BLUE &
MISS SAIGON.
In Melbourne? MAMMA MIA and WE WILL ROCK YOU! I guess some things are just bad wherever they are performed.

Posted: 11/5/03 at 9:51amWasn't "We Will Rock You" helmed by Chris Renshaw as well? He's absolutely the most untalented director. It's no wonder Taboo is in the state it's in.

the all nude college girl review
it had the unfortunate fate of being off broadway on 42nd street a few years ago before the area was completely disney-fied and at least half the crowd (which was seedier even than me) was expecting quite a different show, to say the least.
and before you comment, i was there to see a friend i'd known since childhood who was in the show.

I would also like to know why Oklahoma made the list. I was a little disappointed in the show but how could you say it was the worst show you ever saw?
That is very simple. I hated the music, dancing, acting, and Patty Duke did not charm me at all. I found her annoying and obnoxious. Maybe it's just not the show for me *shrug*
