This is totally a joke but:
WHITNEY HOUSTON
and Fantasia could play Loise
They would rewrite the show so at the end Whitney will sing to Loise "I Will Always Love You"

Rockabye, can I hold him for you while I sing my Sparman version of "Surabaya Johnny" and you punch him? Ljay can contribute as well
Somethingwicked, I think I came in my pants a little after imagining a staging with Pinkins as Rose, Anika as Louise and Nikki M. James as June (talk about inspired casting!).
And while I'm all for thinking outside the box, there is a difference between plain miscasting and original casting. Kristin Chenoweth as Rose is an idea that I'm sure even Chenoweth would be against.

I love Beth Leavel, but is she a good enough dramatic actress to pull it off? I know she's a brilliant comedienne.

Oh, Ray and Rockabye, I just had a vision of a scene from the Marx Brothers' film, 'Duck Soup'.

In another thread someone mentioned Ruthie Henshall for Mama Rose, and I completely agree that in a few years she'd be fantastic! Someone also mentioned Bebe Neuwirth... that'd be amazing!
Oh and Bea Arthur anyone?

Ljay and Ray, thank you for the support. I am actually more upset that he was condescending, then that he disagreed with me. But you guys are very sweet.
And Hep, I got the same visual! :)

Bebe Neuwirth has nowhere near the vocal capacity to do justice to the score of GYPSY.
But Henshall would be an inspired choice in 10 years.

To be fair, neither did Daly and some people consider her the best Rose they've seen. I think Neuwirth would be such an evil Rose, I would love to see her tackle the role.

Americanboy, would you mind editing those out? We don't want the thread to get deleted.

You're right
But I still think that Neuwirth still has a stronger voice.

You're out of your mind if you think Tyne is a better singer than Bebe.
Tyne has no vibrato..and doesn't have the best pitch. Bebe has a more trained sound.

Are you kidding?
Bebe Neuwirth voice is extremely lacking. In no way as good as Daly's. No.

You're making me laugh. Daly was never considered a great singer. She is more of a speak singer. Bebe has had a ton of musical roles. Tyne is primarily an actress who managed to speak/sing through Mama Rose.

Ooo as much as Donna would be my first choice, that combination sounds delicious.

As wonderful as it would be.. I don't think Arthur Laurents would allow color blind casting.
Just a hunch I have.

Neuwirth would be much better vocally than Daly was... Bebe would also give a wholly unique interpretation as rayandallthatjazz86 pointed out! I'd be there in a second to see it!
and I also doubt Mr. Laurents would allow for color blind casting...
