No, it doesn't. If you can't find the building (some people have trouble finding it) it's at Broad and Locust and has a lot of candle lamps outside.

I am from Philly. Am VERY familiar with the AOM! But I moved here to Denver in 1991. I was past the AOM 2 years ago and didn't notice one.

Kendra was out tonite - Annaleigh was in, and was excellent.
Also, Sebastian was out, replaced by Nicolas Dromard. He also held up very well, and had an excellent singing voice.

New Dr. Dillamond tonite- K. Todd Freeman... pretty good, but I liked TBP better. Freeman sounded too young.

Overall, the show had GREAT energy. Julia brought down the house with No Good Deed! WOW. And the ensemble also had a lot of energy tonite.

Excellent cast! Too bad it won't be the same folks in 2007 when they return to Philly.

Doesn't it seem like an awfully large proportion of the performances have understudies? Is there a flu going around or something?

yeah, actually; there's a few flus going around.

When i talked to Julia when I saw her on 3/26, she was telling me how a bunch of people on the tour were sick (Kendra's been out A LOT in Philly and Julia herself wasn't 100%); a bunch of people in the Chicago cast had the flu (Kristy was apparently in the hospital at one point!!); and there is also a flu going around in the Broadway company.

Seems the Wicked casts are getting wicked sick.

*sigh* OK. Bad pun. Hopefully everyone is better soon.

Saw Annaleigh again last night. I still feel the same way: She's very cute and she's good for an understudy, but she's missing that spark that Kendra has. She has a tendency to rush her lines and she doesn't have a very good sense of comic timing. Still, very cute.

matinee review 4/5
understudy day

the understudy slips literally rained out of my playbill

Victoria Matlock- Elphaba Standby. This afternoon was her very first performance. She is exceptional, the best description of her is a mix of idina, ana, and kristy but a little bit sharp. She doesn't riff, which is refreshing. For "what is this feeling" she omitted the glinda voice impression in favor of doing a full impression of glinda getting morrible's attention on "every little trait however small". Her hat is not her friend it seems, she almost lost it during defying gravity, and then knocked it clean off before "for good"

Emily Rozek- Glinda. She is hilarious in the part and should play it full time. During popular she randomly screamed "i love my shoes!" looking at the wall of them. At the stage door she pointed out i have terrible luck since this is the second show i've seen with her filling in the lead (she was my millie)

Nicolas Dromard- Fiyero. He sis great until it came to the higher notes, its not that he couldn't hit them he just got softer notably on them. He had remarkably good chemistry with his 2 understudy leading ladies, and landed the jokes well.

Chris Russo- dillamond. not much to say, he was very good, though i will use this spot to point out that it took a while to figure out who was playing the good doctor. The Playbill says Tim Parker still, then theres an insert with k. todd freeman's bio listed as joining the cast in the part, then i later found the other slip with chris's name on it.

logan's boq annoyed the hell out of me. Alma was amazingly evil in all the right places, the whole cast was in top shape. Lotto was a nightmare whereas i forgot it was lotto not rush and got there at around 10:45 and spent a whole lotta time out in the cold. There was about 60 people there give or take.

That's quite a few understudies.

Quick question--how many hours before the show is the lotto? I'm going to be brave and try it tomorrow!

Good luck to all you "lottos". Here's hoping a first timer gets picked. I'm gonna miss the excitment that Julia & co. brought to the Academy this spring as WICKED flies off to Boston.

You beaners better be as rabidly wonderful as we philly fans!

Jon~ I am so thrilled Victoria Matlock is getting her chance to fly. I met her a few years ago. She's as huge in talent as she is in height! Go Victoria!

Saw the show last night for the first time since October 2003, and it was great. I'll just write a short thing...

Julia Murney - I loved her on the Wild Party CD, and I really was looking forward to seeing her. Since she was out on the 5th, maybe she was still feeling a little sick. A lot of her belting seemed restrained or like she was holding back. Singing in her mix seemed to be the only problem; she could hit the higher notes and the lower notes. She let it all loose on "Defying Gravity", though, except her riffs at the end were lower than Idina's. Her acting was unbelievable, though. It was probably the best acting I've seen on a national tour, and I've seen plenty.

Sebastian Arcleus - ::drools:: He was gorgeous. He also hit all of the notes flawlessly, which made me love him even more. I saw him in Rent a few times but since it was quite some time ago, I forgot about how talented he was. He had the character down to the tee.

Emily Rozek was the best part of the show. She was hilariously funny and had a lighter take on G(a)linda than Kristin Chenoweth. I love seeing understudies because they usually try really hard because they only get so many chances, and you couldn't even tell; her performance seemed effortless. I was so happy with her performance! It really made me love the character of G(a)linda even more because it felt like there was more depth in Rozek's performance than in Chenoweth's.

The sound was off. It was as if there were no sopranos in the ensemble, so the melody was almost completely lost.

Overall, the tour was pretty good. I hope Kendra is feeling better.

Wait so what do you mean by starts? Am I crazy or are these times messed up?

This might sound odd, but it is my first time doing lottery. Do you pay as soon as you enter your name or do you pay once you won?

I hope I'll win... c",

Good Luck Guys! I usually feel sad when I get an understudy but it is true that they give it their 110%.

Just got back from seeing the last performance, i finally managed to get lucky at the lottery, go figure it was my last attempt.

Kendra was out and her understudy Annaleigh Ashford took over, she was amazing. So much energy, she could hardly contain herself from dancing at every song. She goes great with Julia on stage.
Fiyero was perfect, i loved his voice and his acting. ALOT better than David Ayers when i saw it on Broadway, only not as hott. The wizard was great as was Madame Morrible and Nessa. The whole cast was perfect and I'm so glad I got to see it before it left. It was fantastic!!

there were some rude people at today's lottery (which i didn't win). i was a little shocked at the things some people were saying about others who won. i understand everyone wanted to win, but you can still be happy for others.

anyway, i got to see the show while in philly, and was very impressed with the cast and production. Hats off to them. I already have my tickets for 2007 (parquet E 109, 110).

they said something about the guy who won that had a suit on- "get out of here with that nasty suit" and "he is so STUPID for buying one ticket."
