ok, in your opinion, what's the worst movie musical that you've ever seen? i don't mean in relation to how it differs from the stage version. i just mean which didn't you like the most?
mine's meet me in saint louis. i couldn't finish it. it didn't hold my attention at all, which in itself is rare for a musical.

I absolutely LOVED Meet Me in St. Louis! I will still go out of my way to watch it whenever it shows up on TV. The one old one I really disliked a lot was Easter Parade. As much as I loved Fred Astaire, this one just never did it for me. A later MAJOR bomb was "Lost Horizon". I loved Bobby Van but the rest was just awful.

i would have to say Meet me in St. Louis too, but the BEST movie musical i've ever heard/seen is Evita.

You folks have obviously never seen LOST HORIZON or SONG OF NORWAY or YOU CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC or SERGEANT PEPPER or PAINT YOUR WAGON or FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY!

LOST HORIZON but I've never seen FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY which I imagine would be on the top of all worst lists.

MEET ME IN ST LOUIS is amazing. Movie musicals of today (with the exception of CHICAGO which was excellent) don't even come near the perfection of MEET ME IN ST LOUIS.

Jesus Christ Superstar...I just can't get myself to sit through it

From Justin to Kelly...totally a guilty pleasure. If you watch it thinking it's going to be bad, you'll bepleasantly surprised. Yea, it is bad, but it's fun

How has A Chorus Line NOT made the worst movie musical list?

It's HIDEOUS!

I'm surprised no body has said the new Music Man, that one isnt too popular on the board. I, however, LOVE that movie lol. Oh well.

Usually, when I see a movie musical, I dont get into it right away (there are a few exceptions: Chicago, Singin in the Rain). But, usually, I end up loving each one I see lol. I dont really have a least favorite.

I get the feeling that "Phantom of the Opera" will make this list by the end of the year

Godspell
Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
A Little Night Music

Compared to those, A Chorus Line was a masterpiece.

The Wiz - Overproduced and mis-cast (Diana Ross). The only saving grace: Seeing the legendary Lena Horne sing the sh!t out of "Believe In Yourself" at the end of the film but who in their right mind would sit thru this garbage just to get o that point?

Lost Horizon
- - - Peter Finch, Sally Kellerman, Olivia Hussey, Liv Ullman, George Kennedy and Michael York singing?!!!? **Hurl**

A Chorus Line - They butchered "Hello Twelve...", they changed the "meaning" of "What I Did For Love" by giving it to Cassie, turning it into a sappy love song. My only guilty pleasure is Audrey Landers as Val.

The Music Man - The recent TV version. Matthew Broderick can't touch Robert Preston with a 10 foot pole. And as much as I love the woman Kristin Chenoweth can't hold a candle to Shirley Jones.

Hello, Dolly - What were they thinking when they paired Walter Matthau and Barbra (I spelled it right this time) Streisand as a romantic couple? Overproduced with annoying performances. The only gem in this cr@p is seeing Ol' Satchmo doing his thing on the title song. This one disappoointed me because one of my idols, Gene Kelly directed it re: worst movie musical

One From The Heart - Francis Ford Coppola's opus to overproduced Hollywood musicals. Starring Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr, Raul Julia, Nastassja Kinski, Lainie Kazan. It has something to do with a couple unsatisfied with their marriage and thinking the grass is greener on the other side but I didn't stick around long enough to find out how it ended.

Can't Stop The Music - The Village People, Bruce Jenner, Valerie Perrine in a movie directed by Rhoda Morgenstern's mother (Nancy Walker) - - 'nuff said

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Bee Gees take on the Beatles and bring Peter Frampton along for the ride.
What other musical in movie history can boast a cast that includes: Donald Pleasance, Steve Martin, Aerosmith, Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon, Carol Channing, Earth Wind & Fire and Alice Cooper? Which leads me to ask: Whatever happened to Sandy Farina?

Grease 2 - I'd rather sit through "A Chorus Line: The Movie" 100 times over than to be subjected to this godawful mess. The opening number was the only highlight, after that it goes straight into the toilet. Not even Michelle Pfeiffer's pretty pout or Maxwell Caulfield's pecs could save this one. Truly awful. Makes the original look like Shakespeare.

#1 - Meet Me in St. Louis is amazing! How can you not love a Judy Garland movie?!? And its set in St. Louis! (ok maybe I'm a bit partial there). But seriously that movie is 1000x better than most of the modern movie musicals

#2 - can we even really consider From Justin to Kelly ...I feel like it doesn't even deserve to be acknowledged

If you remove the dialogue, bad acting, hideous direction, Gene Kelly, and awful finale set, Xanadu is fabulous! It is my guilty pleasure movie. Say what you will about the film, but the CD is heavenly.

I have got to defend From Justin to Kelly. It has Anika Noni Rose, Kelly Clarkson, and Justin Guarini struggling their way through bad dialogue, choreography, and sets in order to make a beach movie musical about Spring Break without showing too much skin.

It is delightful, and never fails to make me happy. Schindler's List, it is not...but, it was a good time.

I have to agree with Matt about Xanadu. Except I would leave in Gene Kelly because after all he's a LEGEND. I would x-nay Michael Beck and his huge honker. Leave Olivia cause she's the epitome of a sweet virgin/goddess in the movie. I would add more choreography for the luscious Sandahl Bergman and possibly a sort of half-naked erotic dance number for the sisters. I wouldn't touch the soundtrack 'cuz that's what made the movie.
