well popcultureboy i would have to agree with you that she can't hold a candle to adrienne barbeau
I may be one of the few, but i absolutely did not enjoy Chicago at all. I cant watch it. In fact, i have some loathing hatred for Chicago and i really dont know why, i just think the whole concept of stage to screen defeats the purpose of having it on the stage.
Oh, well.
aww i liked Love's Labour's Lost, artsamore, though i do agree with some of the casting complaints.
Another vote for Camelot. I think it's the only movie I ever saw in a movie theater that I walked out on.

the cinderella with brandy. i love everyone else except for her. it might not be the WORST though.
i have to disagree with camelot. it's one of my favorites, but i will give you the fact that it's long. you have to have lots of free time in order to watch it, but i still think it's a classic.
Why am I the only freaking one that love the A Chorus Line movie, as atrocious as it is?!
The Wiz. Blech.
i like a chorus line the movie too. just not my fav, but it's entertaining enough.
Eww, The Cinderella with Brandy. That sh*t was terrible. So was Brandy.
Umm. But I don't know how you could really hate the Chicago movie, I think it's nothing compared to the stage version, and is missing ALL of the magic from the stage show, But I must say it deserved all those Oscars.
I liked the Orginal Annie, Ann Reinking was like the best part, but the whole bridge scene and stuff was uneeded.
I think some of the best Musical Movie's are West Side Story, The King and I, and Chicago. I definetly think those made a good adaption to screen.
ok.... so i know, im beating a dead horse.... but XANADU is awful.... muses + rollerskating = really bad..... but again, to each his own..... one man's trash is another man's guilty pleasure movie.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned AT LONG LAST LOVE! This "masterpiece" features Cybil Shepard and Burt Reynolds torturing the songs of Cole Porter who may be still spinning in his grave.
LINK: Tracy, you look beautiful behind bars.
TRACY: It must be the low-watt institutional lighting.

Plus the movie has miss Lorna Luft who I adore.
That is perhaps the gayest sentence I've heard since the phrase 'Stick it in' became popular amongst my circle of friends.
Has anyone said Jekyll and Hyde? I know it's a staged movie... but I turned it off after I woke up from my nap watching it... Sooo bad...
I can't BELIEVE people didn't like the movie Annie!! That movie was my life when I was 5 years old! I don't know, maybe I just love it because it was a part of my childhood and everyone used to call me "Annie" (which is werid because i'm not a redhead, I just have lots of curls..anyway) I think the movie is 100x better than the play, and the crappy tv movie from a few years ago. Aileen could belt her bootay off when she was just a kid!! She was totally my hero. And Carol Burnett singing "Little Girls" is pricelesa. Plus you have Tim Currey and Bernadette Peters for crying out loud!! Fantastic stuff. It's werid because I thought the musica lwas just like the movie, and when I actually did the play Annie for the first time I was very dissapointed!! But ok I digress, i'll try to answer the original question...
I think the worst movie i've seen was Hello, Dolly! I hated it SO MUCH, I have avoided all productions of it, but now i'm starting to think the actual show is probably a helluva lot better tha nthe crappy movie =)

This is something that I only saw once, on HBO I think...But does anyone remember a movie called "Headin' For Broadway"? It was written by Joseph Brooks who wrote "You Light Up My Life". NOTHING anyone has mentioned can be worse than that. It starred Rex Smith, by the way.
Jesus Christ Superstar without a doubt
Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren - God awful. They butchered that show.
The Music Man with Matthew Broderick/Kristin Chenoweth - I thought the show itself was boring.
I sort of like A Chorus Line. I'd rather see it live on stage, but I liked it. Tommy too. Very interesting show with some great music. Psychedelic. Love the casting too. I love Judy Garland, but Meet Me in St. Louis is not one of my favorites. I'd rather see her in The Harvey Girls.
I thought Chicago the movie was only average. Thought Catherine Zeta-Jones was fabulous, but hated that they cut her part down so much and made it more about Roxie. I did like Renee Zellwegger's voice better than Ann Reinking's. Very beautiful production too, especially Cell Block Tango. The power of movie magic. I thought Moulin Rouge was tons better overall.
I just dont like musical movies at all
they kill the show and then almost all the productions of the show afterwards are like you are watching the movie live or it being filmed its horrid
yes there are a few select ones that I will watch just because they are brilliant
Moulin Rouge is one
however I feel that Chicago is good but was also killed, I did the production the Aug before the movie came out and then the cast and I actually got together and saw the movie and we were like WE DID THAT, THAT WAS OUR IDEA, things like that the whole movie, then for my birthday I went to see another production of it at a pro theatre and I literally thought they were playing the movie. Funny hunny was doen on the piano, and blah blah blah
A Little Night Music is just plain bad.
Annie(When I was 6 I loved it, but once I did the show I realized how crappy it was.)
I too have a weird dislike for the Chicago movie, but I love Hello Dolly.
The Wiz, what happened? Moulin Rouge, what a mess! While I don't like watching Lost Horizon I don't dislike listening to the Bacharach/David score.
Well now let's see...
To start with The Music Man with Matthew B. & Miss Chenoweth it was... well let's just say it was no Preston and Jones.
Grease 2, didn't care for Grease either (highchoolers do not have crows feet) The sequal was just made for the 2 and the original was stunt casted out the wazzoo.
A Chorus Line... nuff said about this movie already
and finally..
Xanadu... Loved loved loved the soundtrack the movie just gave new definition to the word horrid. When I was in school & wored at the radio stations in HS and College we had nicknames for this one.. Xanadudud Xanadon't (So sorry I missed Zann Don't!)and my personal favorite.... XANADOODOO
OK I am now off my soapbox... NEXT!

DOWN WITH LOVE is down at the bottom when I rummage through the barrel of movie musicals.
AT LONG LAST LOVE played Radio City and I recall it being awful, but fun. Porter's words and music elevate the film, however the performances are another matter. Eileen Brennan was Helen Broderick, Cybil and Burt are not Ginger and Fred. The choreography was leadfooted but with Brennan's character (as the maid) it worked.
MAME comes to my mind as the most ghastly, no joy, no fun. Roz or Angela would have given it the pizazz the show requires.
"At Long Last Love" will be screened this Saturday night - March 8th, 2008, in San Francisco at The Castro Theatre. I'm flying up tomorrow to see it in addition to other Peter B. films that The Castro Theatre is honoring.
