re: what is your earliest memory of broadway?
 Jan 29 2005, 01:22:05 AM
It wasn't Broadway, but it got me into musicals.

"Into the Woods" PBS airing developed my passion for musicals, and for Sondheim.

I apologize if this has been brought up before, but has anyone heard the 2004 "The Frogs" recording yet? How does it measure up to the show? I loved the show, but I'm not sure if I want the CD. Thanks!

re: Songs that make you fall asleep (in a good way)
 Jan 29 2005, 01:08:36 AM
I have a hard time falling asleep to Broadway music as well, but if I am, I usually put on some Jason Robert Brown or Mandy Patinkin, Breeze off the River from Full Monty, or Lily's Eyes from Secret Garden.

For REAL sleeping pleasure, it's all about the Lord of the Rings soundtrack!

I love the song "And They're Off."

Malcolm Gets is amazing.

re: KC & The Pops- CH- 1/25
 Jan 27 2005, 12:10:57 AM
I was there! It was amazing, although I think her September show was actually better. My favorites were "Bill," "14G," "'Til There was You," "Taylor," and "Glitter and be Gay." I thought the Pops were amazing as well . . . "Chicago" and "America" were a lot of fun, and "Children will Listen" was breathtaking . . . anyone know why she did not sing it? She was billed as singing it . . .

Great show!

re: Pacific Overtures- Yay or nay?

It's Sondheim. That's good enough for me.
Back in Oz so soon?
 Jan 26 2005, 11:47:47 PM
Kristin didn't mention anything at the Carnegie Hall concert last night about returning to Wicked. Personally, I would be surprised if she did. Plus, isn't she going to start filming Asphalt Beach soon? Or is that already finished?

Oh yeah, I forgot about David Yazbek and Jack O'Brien. I absolutely LOVED the Full Monty. I'm glad that Patrick Wilson has become so popular lately.
re: Sean McCourt as Wizard in Wicked
 Jan 23 2005, 09:51:10 PM
I believe, though I can't be certain, that it was alway supposed to be Joel, but they could not get him until after the San Fran run, so Robert Moses was only a temporary fill. I remember reading that somewhere, but please do not quote me!

As for casting, who could be better than Joel?? Although, even with Sean's very small roles when I saw him (as Elphie's father and the guard) I felt he stood out from the rest and I really enjoyed watching him. So I can only imagine what he did wit

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels- it has Norbert and Sherie and Joanna!

What could be better?

re: Merrily We Roll Along
 Jan 23 2005, 08:03:12 PM
I see "That Frank" as a type of satire- celebrating Frank for all the reasons- he's rich and famous, makes movies, and throws good parties, which contrasts with Mary mocking all the shallowness of the situation. I see the scene and the song as very fake and all of the party people kissing his ass. I think it immediately establishes him as a very self-absorbed, shallow character.
But that's just my take on the situation, and how the versions I've seen portray it.
Any other opinions?
