Kerry Butler in "You're the One That I Want"?
 Dec 5 2006, 07:10:11 PM
I was watching the preview for "You're the One That I Want" and I saw this girl who looked remarkably like Kerry Butler. It's uncanny.

Does anyone know if she auditioned for the show?

The thread you referenced is an idea thread focusing STRICTLY on a Broadway performer. There have been many other threads posted by other members in the same vein. So you're example holds no water.

And, you're right, that remark was petty. Forgive me for not knowing what an orchestrator does in comparison to the composer. I know the composer is responsible for writing the music to all the songs in a show but I didn't know just how much composing they did strictly for the orchestra.

Well, the thread isn't exactly Broadway related nor is it's title.

Sure, you mention Hines as a sidenote but the main point of this thread seems to be just to promote the movie itself.

I'm gonna have to go with FYG on this one. There's a reason there is a Broadway board and an Off-topic board. I don't think it's asking too much to have Milla follow the rules.

I'd actually love to know what they think, too. Has anyone heard anything?

Hardly.

What happened to SHREK - The Musical?
 May 16 2006, 11:13:26 PM
I was reading the article that came out in Playbill talking about hot David Lindsay-Abaire was penning the book for SHREK - The Musical and that Jason Moore was set to direct.

It also talks about Sam Mendes' production company producing the venture and the possibility of Jeanine Tesori writing the score. It mentions developmental readings that were set for 2005.

Did these readings happen? Is the project scrapped?

I think I almost peed myself. Will there be any Playbill discounts for this or do they expect the whole run to sell out?

How does TDF pick what performances are offered?
 Apr 27 2006, 12:33:37 PM
Just wondering, because I wanted the matinee for a show next Wednesday but, unfortunately, they only have the night performance offered. I did notice that the site is updated every day so are there chances they may offer the matinee as the week goes on?
The MOVIN' OUT Love Thread
 Apr 26 2006, 10:57:07 AM
I miss it soooooooo much. I'm still so upset that the Nederlanders closed it to make way for TARZAN. Not that I wish TARZAN any failure, but it just seems a little underhanded, as if Disney Theatricals struck a deal to force MOVIN' OUT to close.

I've never seen a dance piece that moved me like MOVIN' OUT did. Joel's orchestrations were phenomenal and he deserved the TONY he won for it. Tharp's amazing choreography told the story brilliantly and flawlessly. I'm glad it was considered a

Consecutive Performer TONY Wins
 Apr 25 2006, 07:15:57 PM
I was just wondering. Has the same performer ever won a TONY award for the same category or different category two years in a row?

For instance, one year a performer winning for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and then winning for Best Lead Actress in a Musical the year after that. Or, a performer winning for Best Actor in a Musical or Play two years in a row.

Are the THREE DAYS OF RAIN actors all leading?
 Apr 22 2006, 10:08:39 PM
Just wondering, will Julia Roberts, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper all be considered leading actors in a play for the Tony nominations? Because, I think they're names are under the title, if I'm not mistaken.

Also, what is the likeliness of a win for any of the three?

"Cooking with Bea Arthur" (I think it could work!)
 Apr 18 2006, 03:14:16 PM
Anyone who's seen "Just Between Friends" or listened to the recording of "Bea Arthur on Broadway" will know what I'm talking about.

How incredible would it be for Bea to host her own talk show/cooking program on the food network? I think her opening monologue to her one woman show is incredibly funny and it would be so funny to see her cooking and throwing some jokes in there and maybe doing some musical numbers while the food cooks.

Just an idea.

re: Will any reviews or opinions matter in the case of Julia Roberts!??

I didn't think it was funny, either.
re: The Threepenny She-Bopera: Where’s Bobby Darin when you need him?

Okee, I usually don't sound off on stuff like this, but I have to say something. I don't mean to be rude leadfoot but you're really sounding quite egotistical. Now, i don't mean to start a fight, but saying that they're all doomed and warning people not to waste their money is just a tad pretentious.

Why not encourage people to go and make up their own minds?

What's the difference between composer and orchestrator?
 Mar 25 2006, 11:25:10 AM
One thing that has always confused me about the TONY awards is the different awards for Best Score and Best Orchestrations.

I've always assumed that orchestrations meant the difference between the vocal notes of a song, and the specific part that each member of the orchestra has to play when accompanying the singer.

Does the composer of the score not write the instrumental parts?

I know Billy Joel won the TONY for Best Orchestrations rather than for Best Score, so I'

Extreme Orchestra Side Seating (Partial View) for the Richard Rogers
 Mar 24 2006, 02:01:14 PM
Has anyone sat there before?

I know MOVIN OUT and TARZAN are completely different shows.

But I'm just wondering how much or how little you're able to see from that view because I'm able to get a decent priced seat in Row B of the orchestra but the website says it's extreme side/partial view.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Recent GYPSY revival - Controversial?
 Mar 22 2006, 08:06:41 PM
In the Playbill article about Sam Mendes direction THE VERTICAL HOUR, it says:

"The work, The Vertical Hour, will be directed by Sam Mendes, in his first Broadway foray since piloting the controversial Bernadette Peters revival of Gypsy."

What was so controversial about it?

I've always wondered that, too.

There's an alternate "Tower of Babel" that you can choose to perform if you're doing GODSPELL.
