Ellen Foley did workshops and the out of town try of INTO THE WOODS at La Jolla and was a replacement Witch on Broadway.

Jamie Lloyd’s EVITA on Broadway

Just a reminder that the original Hal Prince production of EVITA utilized video extensively - albeit in the form of historic news clips. The entire original production was almost wall to wall with it.

BLACK SWAN and WONDER world premiere musicals and more set for American Repertory Theatre

Looks like Lena Hall, Amber Gray, and Rachel York were all a part of it. I’d assume Gray and Hall were the Portman/Kunis characters and maybe York was Ryder but unclear based on this post.

Fascinated by what this stage production will be like. None of these actresses are exactly age appropriate for the those characters, nor are they dancers. Considering the almost impossible feat of finding musical theatre talent who can sing Dave Malloy and convincingly dance classical ballet, I wonder if the production utilizes some kind of dramatic device (a la - maybe these women represent these characters vocally, while ballet dancers represent them choreographically? )

So…restage an ENTIRE fully-realized Broadway production from 20 years ago in a matter of 2-3 weeks at best? Notwithstanding the fact that the elements of that produc

Les MIs tour cast to Boycott Trump performance

Show up. Perform the show, and let the message of the musical speak for itself. If he shows up, do the entire final "Do You Hear the People Sing" directed entirely to him.

That's called using your voice. Sitting out doesn't do squat. There will be somebody to replace you. It's showbiz.

Trumpers on Broadway

The problem with this kind of pursuit, beyond that most of it is total heresy is that the sword often cuts both ways. Somebody mentioned above the Nederlanders who donated to both Republican and Democratic causes.  What about a fiscal Republican who donates strongly to BCEFA? It's just not as black and white as people want to it to be.

I think its fair to single out people who are demonstratively, self declared extremist Trump supporters, but if they aren't self volunteeri

Lincoln Center Theater to Revive RAGTIME at the Vivian Beaumont, Fall 2025

I thought Cassie Levy at Encores came across as a little too bohemian for Mother. The journey of that character has to be that she starts in a place of extreme conservatism.  She did indeed also sing the score (IMO) with a little too much of a pop feeling to it.

Putting the names of people on a list based on heresay is the subject of two excellent Broadway plays this season: "John Proctor is the Devil" and "Good Night and Good Luck."

2025 Pulitzer Prize Predictions
 May 5 2025, 04:04:23 PM

Plays are not necessarily "eligible" the year they are first performed. They have to be submitted to the Pulitzer Committee for consideration of the honor, and that very often is not until a play has already had some developmental (regional) productions.

2025 Pulitzer Prize Predictions

For what its worth, winning a Pulitzer doesn't always correlate to a Tony win...

Was John Proctor submitted this year or would it be eligible next? It seems like the EXACT kind of thing the Pulitzer would honor, or at least mention on a shortlist. And Proctor still feels like the Tony winner this year to me too.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/27/25

To the comment about shows having wealthy producers. This isn't the days of David Merrick, a sole producer throwing unlimited amounts of money into a production if he wants to keep it open. Productions have operating papers that are legal documents pertaining to the money raised. They have huge amounts of investors they have to be accountable too. Yes, certain shows may budget in advance for a reserve or a loan to keep it going, but at the end of the day, if a show operates at a loss for

A critics pick from the Times while symbolically prestigious doesn't seem to have much weight on a show's box office. I mean it certainly didn't help Swept Away and isn't bringing in masses to Redwood.

Tony Awards Predictions (All Categories)
 Apr 29 2025, 12:12:32 PM

I wouldn't take Jessie Green's "Who Should be a Tony Nominee" article too seriously. By including productions and performances that aren't even Tony eligible, it's really just a puff piece indicating his personal favorites of the New York season. No Tony nominator is going to be influenced by his exclusions.
