RIP Arthur Laurents May 6
2011, 05:50:32 AM
A few years ago, I wrote to Mr. Laurents to tell him of what a huge fan and admirer I was of his work and asked him what his favourite play was. He wrote, "Dear Amy, My favourite play is the next one I write. Sincerely, Arthur Laurents" I always liked that response. May he rest in peace.

2011 Tony Award Nomination Discussion thread May 3

I'm disappointed that Born Yesterday didn't receive a nomination for Best Revival. Couple that snub with last week's gross and it's likely to close soon, no?

"This is just all wrong to me. Radcliffe is everything we want in a Hollywood star. He joins the theatre community not so much out of "hey, this could be my Tony chance" but rather out of real love for it. The Tony committe has honored less deserving Hollywood stars in the past. People who came in, turned their noses up at us, and got a Tony. But Daniel who shows a real love for the theatre and has done a LOT for BC/EFA gets snubbed two years in a row." Agreed. I think that given the f

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/17 Apr 19

"..and it is the only true smash musical of the season so it can." Not being pedantic, but can't we consider Priscilla Queen of The Desert a smash hit musical also?

Just reiterating what others have said - yikes, Born Yesterday and High. I hope Born Yesterday picks up after the reviews. Also, glad to see Catch Me If You Can post a higher gross this week, even with the less-than-stellar reviews.

Congratulations to Bruce Norris - very well deserved! Admittedly a little shocked at the other two finalists - especially Guare - but thrilled that Clybourne Park triumphed.

Riedel: Motherf**ker will be nominated for Best Play and Actor... Apr 13
2011, 06:50:50 PM
I'm not saying it wasn't true - I just don't see how any of that article could have been read as Riedel having faith in the show, as he stated it was in the later article.

My favourite part of that article is how Riedel says that, despite penning an article which basically put the nail in Motherf**ker's coffin, "if you read between the lines, you knew that my faith in Guirgis and his play was unshakable. Never mind the fact that the article boasted about the situation being "dire", made mocking allusions to the playwright's struggle with depression, pondered about Chris Rock's supposed "failure" to draw audiences and even quoted an anonymous source as s
