I saw this and all of the revivals since, also considering Bette Midler’s tv movie. Her voice was not good. I am not sure if she was ill or just exhausted, but she had a really rough time by the end of the 1st act. I think several factors come to play. The cost of coming to the city is crazy. We would come 4 to 5 times per year for the past 20 years. This past year we have not come because hotels, flights, restaurants, and tickets are through the roof. Also tours are going out so fast in the past few years that several friends have said that they don’t want to pay the expense of travel to the city to see a show when it will be in their town in the next 12 to 18 months. I was involved in the selection process for an area in the past. The high school director has to ask the area judges, who are anonymous to come to one of the performances. If the director doesn't ask and submit the paperwork, the school doesn't get judged. There are 3 judges and they must have no connection to any student or faculty at the school. The judges do not attend the same performance and are not allowed to discuss that they are involved in any way with anyone other than the selection...

We were supposed to come to the city this week and cancelled our plans because of the World Cup. Hotel’s were way over priced and were concerned about traffic in the city and getting to and from the airports.

I saw “Moulin Rouge” in Boston prior to the Broadway run. I thought there it was much more fun than Broadway, in ways I wish I would have skipped it in NYC and kept those memories. “Be More Chill” was fun and harmless off-Broadway. When we saw it right after it’s opening on Broadway it was awful in almost every way. I wanted to leave at intermission, but friends wanted to see if it got better.

My first Broadway show was “Grease” when I was in junior high. It was a life changing experience for me.

I think a musical of “A Confederacy of Dunces” would be really fun. It has already been adapted into a play and I think the New Orleans setting and extravagant characters would make a fun show.

I remember when it came out and having seen ACL so many times before it did. I after the opening I wanted to throw something at the screen. When they decided to make “What I Did for Love” a love song I stood up and said to friends who went with me, “I will be in the car, this is trash” and left. I eventually watched the end years later and still was appalled at what was put on film. It should have been cut up for guitar picks.

I saw this in Toronto years ago. I love Jim Steinman’s music and thought the singing was great, but what an awful afternoon of theater. I would have just rather seen a concert of his music and thrown out all the script.

I saw it with Klein and Arnaz. It’s what I call and “one and done.” Glad I saw it, don’t care to ever see it a second time, unless someone very compelling was in it. I think Parker/Broderick would have been great. It is so dated and I found the music bland along with the writing.

I would love to see Christine Ebersole or Beth Leavel. I think either could bring a nice touch with a little bit of irony and acidic comedy to it.

Having seen both with the original cast, I will say at the time "A Chorus Line" was innovative and compelling. It sucked you in and didn't let you go till the lights faded on the kick line. "Chicago" was fun and exciting and the dancing (like "Pippin") with the score I think made the show. I will say, I think "Chicago" even in its current striped down form is a better show overall currently. "ACL" needs to be updated somewhat.
