I agree that Rene Reid scored in this, and did much better than expected under the circumstances. She definitely has comic timing, and you can see why a nice looking woman has awkward moments with men ("95 Ways to Go" landed a big laugh where I was sitting), and feels she has to overcompensate in other areas since she's overshadowed by her flirty sister. I tried to give Rent a second chance after much pleading by my boss at the time, and just couldn't do it, having been truly bored the first time around. I saw the Thursday matinee with Victoria Byrd, and thought she was absolutely magnetic. Would I go back to see those I missed? Possibly. It's ironic that you ask this question because I just got an email regarding Death Becomes Her tickets for the matinee today indicating that both leading ladies were out and that I could ask for a credit through my point of purchase which was today tix. I saw this tonight, and before the show started and during intermission, a lot of people were pointing out details of the curtain that I felt were metaphors for the plot. Not going to give any details away, but that was a great way to get people to start to engage with the show before hand and put away their phones!

With completely different voice once a minute, tell the audience that they have a certain amount of minutes before the show starts. 10 minutes then five minutes than 10 minutes then 5 minutes again, then two minutes then 10 minutes again. If you have lots of seniors in the audience, it creates a lot of fun. You might make some people think that they're watching the little old ladies from ""The Producers". (Worked in Noises Off!)

I consider "The Music Man" up there with "Guys and Dolls" and "Hello Dolly!" to be practically perfect shows that give me that goofy smile the minute the music starts that often brings me to tears of complete joy. I really enjoy the cast albums he's heard on, including "Irma La Douce", the Off Broadway "Boys From Syracuse" and "Do I Hear a Waltz" where he isn't allowed to sing the lyric that Sondheim wanted for "We're Going to be All Right" (basically an early version of "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow") that Richard Rodgers found crude.
