I was there tonight....
She was awful. It was the most amateurish performance of this role I've ever seen.
Where to begin??
I guess I'll start with the positives. Some of her acting choices are very good. She handles the lion cub scene with Fiyero, right before I'm Not That Girl, very well. Also, very nice acting in the Wicked Witch of the East scene.
Other than that, it was all downhill.
She completely blew the last note of I'm Not That Girl. She was not even in the vicinity of the correct note. The end of No Good Deed was even worse. She stopped, tried to take a breath, keep going, then stopped again, took another breath, and sang the again, well, again. That was off key, and David Evans (the conductor) cut her off.
The rest of her singing was not what you would expect or desire from the Broadway Elphaba. She cut off a lot of notes in Defying Gravity, and the ones she did try and hold out, she had to slide up to. She screwed up the beginning of the flying. The dialogue tonight became, "Let her go! I am the one you want. It's not her. It's meeeee..."
Her imitations of Glinda's "toss, toss" weren't even close. She waves her hands around a lot. She'd be quite good if this was community theater out in Peoria.
Her voice was shot by the middle of No Good Deed. I have no idea how she will be able to do two shows tomorrow, much less keep this up for any length of time.
It's frustrating because they had some really tight shows earlier this week, when Julie was on. Julie is about 100 times better than Nicole, and the fact that she isn't the lead is very irritating. To think that they have a brilliant Elphaba that is being wasted away standing by for the sub-par Nicole Parker is incredibly annoying.

adamgreer, so do you think this is going to be a repeat of Kerry's first month and Nicole will be missing a lot? Because I really want to see Julie again.

Yes. Julie's last day with Wicked is February 15th, but I am certain she'll be on multiple times before she leaves. In fact, I bet she does one of the shows tomorrow. Nicole's voice was SHOT by the middle of No Good Deed.

It was that bad huh...yeessh. I for one am going to miss Marcie. I thought she was an amazing Elphaba, acting and voice wise. Maybe Nicole will improve throughout her run. Does anyone know how long she is supposed to be in the role?
I grew to like Marcie by the end. She definitely grew on me.

Is Julie confirmed to go on February 15th or is it just her last day in the company?
Hasn't every Elphaba to date had a poor attendance record?
