They used to always say that shows that would tour well had a bit of an edge in regards to Best Musical. Is that still a thing? I can see Tony voters fresh off of MHE feeling like another small, ultimately 2-character piece, is not the vibe… it's time to crown a big, traditional, fun show. I think Shmig checks a lot of boxes and might win by default in a weak season.

I've done the show and the callbacks are a blast in moderation. It's best when large groups do the "classic" ones, and a few folks with great projection, diction, and comedic timing sneak in a few "zingers." ... It's sadly the super-fans that often ruin the show for the rest of the audience (and the actors). The play version isn't built to have a call back after every single line. On paper this feels like it should be right up my alley. I loved Arden's direction in Parade, I loved Ali in Tommy, and I think the source material is good.... But I'm reeeeeeeeeeeally concerned the songs aren't going to do anything. They're going to rely on the book to tell the whole story and the songs are just going to be generic filler that barely and vaguely "comments" on what's going on. Hoping I'm proven wrong though! For the folks underwhelmed by the casting, what would have excited you? I'm a big fan of the show and my initial reaction to the cast line up is that it looks pretty stellar. For me, in terms of vibes it's through the roof... As long as everybody is up to the task vocally, I think we're in for a real treat.

I saw Six and Death Becomes Her prior to their Broadway runs. Loved them both, but when I'm in NYC the vibe is always that time is limited - so I'm always going to see something new.

Maybe, because a traditional pro-shot of this exact production already exists with the London cast, they wanted a way to differentiate this version. So, they opted for a more "this is a real film" approach…

I may be in the minority, but I think the original London book was like 80% there. Maybe just tighten up and freshen up that one instead of starting from scratch (again) ... I can certainly see this playing out as an immersive version that takes place at the actual club.
