Plays You Hope Get Revived

I’m gonna get torn apart for this, but I’d love a Slave Play revival in 10 years. Jeremy O. Harris is an insufferable douchebag, but he wrote a damn good play.

The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night time.

Cyprus Avenue by David Ireland!
I always have a hope this will be revived every 10 years with that generations great northern Irish actor!
I was COMPLETELY FLABBERGASTED by it at the Royal Court London

I honestly would love to see HIGH by Matthew Lombardo make a comeback, maybe off-Broadway.
The script and direction had its problems, but I remember being 17 and absolutely enamored by Kathleen Turner’s towering performance.
I think with a few small rewrites, a steadier directorial hand and a grounding more in realism than melodrama, it could be a very powerful piece.

I've always been surprised that there has never been a Broadway revival of AGNES OF GOD.

Surprised we haven’t seen a Stoppard show since he passed. I’d love to see The Real Thing or Arcadia tackled on Broadway, even though they’re quite popular regionally,

He just passed in November 2025. His body isn’t even cold yet!
We did just have The Real Thing, Travesties, and Arcadia in the last 15 years. Maybe Rosencranz & Guilderstern are Dead could get a new production.

Nicholas Nickleby, mostly because I managed to miss both the original and the revival. And there are whole new generations to enjoy Deathtrap and Accomplice.

I'm surprised A Few Good Men hasn't gotten a starry revival, since the movie has become such a pop culture linchpin.

Quartermaine's Terms by Simon Gray should have a Broadway run and Greenberg's The Violet Hour deserves a second chance.
They'll never happen because they're too big, but revivals of The Time of Your Life or Balm In Gilead would be amazing. An Octoroon never made it to Broadway, either.

Of all the titles named so far, this is the one I am most surprised we have not seen back in NY in a major production.

"Find Your Way Home" by John Hopkins.
I remember my mother went on a theater trip to see it. The group, from what I remember, just bought tickets to the show not knowing much about it. When she got home she told me about it and said she really wanted me to see it. It only lasted on Broadway for a few months. Would love to see it revived off-Broadway at least. It played at the Biltmore (Now the Samuel J. Friedman) and it crosses my mind every time I see a show there.

Two I'd love to see revived that are probably too big are Lenny (maybe at the Beaumont?) and The Great White Hope (which is probably too big even for the Beaumont).
Also adding As Is. It's taken second place over the years to The Normal Heart, but much can be learned from how each play reflects that frightening, maddening era.

SO many great ideas so far.
Did I imagine it or did someone (maybe years ago) once throw out the idea of an Encores, but for plays.

That won a Tony for Michael Moriarty (and a nomination for Jane Alexander) and then just disappeared.
