Wow! The ticket prices for this show! I was going to see this show with my sister-in-law and niece, but, at the time had other plans. Those plans fell through and I’m now thinking of going with them. When we were originally looking at tickets, we were able to get decent orchestra seats for $185. Those seats were $255 a couple of weeks ago and now they are $311. I know there’s a lot of hate on this board for Gypsy, but I saw this back in January and loved every second.
I’d never seen Audra McDonald on stage before and felt honored to be in her company for one night. Her performance, to me, was a once in a lifetime experience.
I adore the cast recording and my partner is quite sick of it at this point.

No shade to Gloria Gaynor, but, LOL, she's had one hit that people in the mainstream will recognize. Someone like Madonna (love her or hate her) makes much more sense. Or Beyonce?
Michael Crawford? What about Nathan Lane? Audra McDonald?
Sylvester Stallone? What about Tom Cruise? Harrison Ford?
And Trump hosting it? Ugh. The news is utterly depressing these days.

Probably asked and answered a few times...so..apologies, but, what is the best recording of Chess?
I'm anxious to see the upcoming revival and want to become familiar with the soundtrack. I didn't even know that the 1980's hit "One Night in Bangkok" came from this show!  Anyway, I've heard that the London recording is the best, but, there are those who think the Actors Benefit show with Idina Menzel and Josh Groban is the best. Any thoughts?

Hmmmm…I loved her performance in Sunset, but to mention her in the same breath as Gaga and Josh Groban? Gurl is not in the same stratosphere as either of them. Outside of theater buffs snd the random Pussycat Dolls fan, the general population response to her would be “Nicole who?”

Y'all are so grumpy.
I thought Audra was phenomenal. Yes, she seemed angry, but, that was the point. Rose is upset her time in the spotlight will never come and she realizes at this point in the show that she was an overbearing stage mom not for her kids as she claimed...but....for herself. I saw all that come through. And, yes, she "acted", but, isn't that the point of theater?
The MHE performance was delightful and totally captured

And, really, why is that open letter ridiculous? I mean, yeah, it wasn't really necessary, but, I'm not sure it's a great look when a privileged white woman verbally attacks two black women? Maybe LuPone should just learn to shut her mouth. Or think about "optics"?
