Re: From BOCKING to ROPE - The New Group

Sep 12, 2026 — 12:50:19 AM

I’m definitely excited to check this one out. I’ve never read Patrick Hamilton’s original play, but I have seen the Hitchcock film. But can I just say: I’ve been arguing for YEARS that we need a proper dramatization of Leopold and Loeb and the murder of Bobby Franks. The actual story and psychology are fascinating enough without fictionalizing them—their extraordinary intelligence, immense privilege and prominent Jewish families in Chicago; Leopold’s obsession with Nietzsche and the idea of t...

If Dorrance is choreographing, that’s a genuinely inspired choice and a huge get. It would probably make this a must-see for me.She’s obviously a contemporary tap genius, but just as importantly, she’s a student and historian of the form who came up learning from the actual masters. For a show like 42nd Street, that’...

I used to use the iOS app exclusively because the website is horrible to navigate but I’d migrate to the web address when making predictions as the predictions on GD app was, well, gd awful. Then the app disappeared (at least for iOS—idk about android— but I assume it the same?). So if there’s a new app is it horrible and I should stick with the site yet barely frequent to it like I u...

Broadway's Most Bankable Star?

May 6, 2026 — 11:40:13 PM

The “Broadway’s most bankable star” question depends on what we mean by Broadway star. Radcliffe is absolutely bankable, but much of that comes from Harry Potter. Same with Jackman/Wolverine, Lea Michele/Glee, Denzel, Bette, etc. They can sell Broadway tickets, but their fame is not Broadway-first. If we’re talking about bankable stars whose public identity is still primarily theatre-defined, I keep landing on Sutton Foster and Jonathan Groff. They’ve both done screen work, obviously, but Bro...

Drama League Awards 2026

Apr 20, 2026 — 5:22:19 PM

For some reason the “edit” option is gone for me so I can’t just add this to my initial post. But the rules would have changed / loosened up prior to the 2024 nominations because all three from Merrily were nominated; and Urinetown was nominated last year for City Center. I can’t think of any other instances of more than two performers from a show or City Center productions prior to that. Others will know better than I, but I can’t think of a single time prior to this year when shows/ perform...

Drama League Awards 2026

Apr 20, 2026 — 4:36:28 PM

It does appear the eligibility either quietly changed or the rules were loosened a bit. Looking over eligibility requirements, it doesn’t state that only two performers from a show are eligible, and regarding the transfer shows “double dipping”, it states that “Productions that transfer within two separate seasons, but that are materially similar in the creative team, design, and acting company, may be considered in both seasons”. Regarding City Center, it does state “Present no less than fou...
