Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/2/26

We officially hit our summer peak the week before. The star-led limited runs from the spring have ended / are about to end, and some schools just got back in session. Numbers will soon plunge across the board, with some usual exceptions.

Happy trails to Drew Gehling over at & JULIET; four ensemblists also notably departed RAGTIME two weeks early.

I'm pretty pleased by the overall % cap numbers... just goes to show there seems to be a limit as to how much everyone (even the richest of the rich) can spend for something like live theatre, especially in the current economic climate.

These were the numbers that CATS probably would’ve been pulling if they took the big prize over RAGTIME. It’s amazing what announcing a closing notice and the proceeding to gouge people on all the remaining tickets will do to boost your numbers.

I'm so happy to see Cats: The Jellicle Ball in the Million Dollar Club, even if the reason is sad.

No.

This CATS thrived on scarcity as much as incredible reviews and word of mouth. Even if it would have settled for an open-ended Off-Broadway run somewhere, I can't imagine there would've been a collective urgency to see it there either.

It's not true in any capacity. The correct show won for Revival, it's been far more popular for nearly a year, and it actually made money. The sad obsession makes these people delusional, it seems.

Sunset did boffo box office after its Tony wins; it just coincided with its hard end date after months of soft box office. (Though I think that Nicole’s win likely sparked that box office rush than its revival win).

There are a lot of Broadway musicals that are more than a year old that are in the $650K to $800K range:

& Juliet: $781K

Operation Mincemeat: $697K

Maybe Happy Ending: $726K

Just in Time: $720K

Buena Vista Social Club: $718K

They are in different places in terms of running costs and whether they have recouped but I was curious if any of them are looking better than others or have stronger outlooks. Are any of these shows making money week-to-week now?
