LIZA! at 80! - CARNEGIE HALL

Looks fantastic."I've learned never to underestimate or even guess about attempts at sarcasm from members of this board but unless I'm missing something or still drunk from the World Cup loss last night I see no detailed report.

Joe Turner's Adding Phone Stickers?

Fences and The Piano Lesson may be his shows that won him the Pulitzer, but this one is every bit as special (and like those it won the NY Dram...

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

It’s very possible- especially depending on what kind of insurance they have- that the show comes out of this in a...

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

May 4, 2026 — 4:53:13 PM

It is not going to close. Feel free to come back here quote me and kick me if I’m wrong, but the show is still running on London, on the road, and multiple international tours. It’s made more money than God or the Angel Moroni and they’re not going to let the Broadway production close overnight because of an insurance accident. (Let alone on the eve of what was to be The biggest celebration of the show since its opening.)There’s no way to guess what the extent of the damage is at this point- ...

THE LOST BOYS Previews

Apr 26, 2026 — 1:41:22 PM

I’m curious too. Of the 16 Broadway shows to open so far in 2026, a whopping 11 of them were classified by the New York Times as “Critic’s Picks”- with other reviews in almost every case mostly falling in line with the Times’ opinion. So whatever else, people can’t say that the critics this season are being the big meanies they’re often generalized as being.

In other words, would they prefer to vote for a show (basically, Two Strangers or Lost Boys, assuming no miracle for Beaches) who are open to remaining open past September 6?"LOL I’m sure Schmigadoon is “open” to remaining open past Labor Day. But again I don’t see that being a factor even if they haven’t announced an ‘extension’ - they, or for that ...

Mr. Wormwood said: "No, Schmigadoon is not a jukebox musical but it is very hard for a musical with a pre-existing score to win Best Musical. Just in recent years, MJ losing to A Strange Loop and Hell's Kitchen losing to The Outsiders are good recent examples. Moulin Rouge doesn't count because none of the musicals were eligible for score. Once doesn't really count either because its biggest threat (Newsies) was also partly a pre-existing score. To find a time where a show with a pre-existing...

Jeffrey Karasarides said: "As I alluded to earlier, if Schmigadoon! were to lose Best Book, but still win Best Musical, it would need to take a major above the line category to go with it. In fact, when the New York Times mentioned in their 2024 Tony voter survey thatThe Outsiderswas ahead in Best Musical, I settled on that in my final predictions. I also predicted it would take Book to go with it as I knew it would seem odd foraBest Musical winner to not take home any major above the line aw...

Jeffrey Karasarides said: "Kimbo said: "Schmigadoon wins in a walk. This is now Schmigadoon’s to lose for two main reasons: its overall the best reviewed new musical of the year, and the voters en masse - not the road block, not the New Yorkers, but a majority of everyone - are generally not going to be keen on giving Best Musical to a chamber piece that’s essentially a two-character show two straight years in a row. Then again, if Two Strangers does win, it'd be a scenario where voters likely ...

Schmigadoon wins in a walk. To those who’ve been citing other examples of quieter or smaller-scale winners (Fun Home, Kimberly Akimbo, The Band’s Visit, Once) I’d only say those were generally all far more ecstatically reviewed shows than any of the offerings this year. If Strangers Carrying a Cake had gotten the reviews Maybe Happy Ending did, or Titanique the reviews that Oh Mary got, we’d have a different race. Barring The Lost Boys pulling the critical upset of the decade (it can happen- ...

In looking at her resume, I guess I have seen her before in The Handmaid's Tale but I never knew the name of that actress (and the show became too unsettlingly real for me to finish). I hope she does well with the role and I'm excited for the play. But this would seem to confirm my suspicion that someone else had to bow out of the project. Chances of a Strike?

ACL2006 said: "Kad said: "AEA just announced in IG that a tentative agreement was reached."WOOHOO!!!"Yes good news. I still put the odds at 50-50 whether there’s a strike in the next week or two, because of Local 802, where the negotiations are not going quite as well. (Hey at least that’s better than when I woke up this morning, before the AEA news, when I would’ve put the odds at closer to 75%.)

Did anyone see OLD FRIENDS when Bernadette was out?

If one of the stars is out the other one comes out and says their co-star can’t be there but will be their “co-host” for the evening, like they’re still there in spirit? That sounds not only idiotic but borderline offensive. (Also reinforces why as much as I love Sondhei...

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

Apr 5, 2025 — 2:43:57 PM

Counter-argument: (or at least a different experience)I’ve seen it 3 times now, most recent being last night, and every single time Audra has been in (and been glorious), but Joy Woods has been out. I‘m not alone in that either- I have 3 or 4 other friends who’ve missed her as well (one of whom admittedly went because she’s friends with her understudy)Just wondering if it’s sneakily possible that Woods is actually missing more.

ILLINOISE Reviews

Honestly some of the ugliest things I’ve ever read on here (which, flame away, is truly saying something) or on any message board for that matter…”I can’t believe how they handled this””What sacks of s**t””I guess I’ll cut them some slack”. They used the word TRAGEDY, for god’s sake, and not lightly. They’re talking about a sudden dramatic death of someone who was a part of their show’s family and some people are acting like they know better how the news should have been announced, how all th...

Lindsay Mendez in Merrily We Roll Along

Jan 15, 2024 — 3:26:38 PM

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best. I know this has been alluded to on here and I mentioned it myself, but Lindsay is one of the leads in the new series “American Sports Story”. Some simple googling shows that the series began filming in April and was suspended in July due to the strikes. Lindsay’s casting wasn’t officially announced until November 3rd, shortly before the strikes were resolved. Meanwhile the show’s Wikipedia page lists her as one of the 3 leads of that show. And s...
