It's A Wonderful Life with Hilty, Rannells, Burgess, coming to the Broadhurst

seeing multiple reports about It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry coming to the Broadhurst for a limited holiday run and the mystery show Megan Hilty is teasing is that. I would assume she would play Mary Bailey?

I know the play is produced alot in regional. It's actually playing by me soon at a local theatre. Anyone seen a local production or have any thoughts?

I've been in a local production and seen several. It's a good, solid show that represents the movie well, if in an abridged manner. Seems pretty small for a Broadway house, though, and as it's meant to represent a radio play it's usually performed script-in-hand.

Curious who else they could get in the cast. Could be an opportunity for some big name actors for a limited engagement.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but George (rumored to be Andrew Rannells) and Mary (Megan Hilty?) are not the star roles here. There's a role for Freddie Filmore, the radio show host, who takes on about forty of the supporting roles in the story and frequently plays scenes opposite himself. If you get a comedian or a major voice actor like Hank Azaria in that role, it's a dark horse Tony contender for supporting actor.

I worked on a local production a few years ago. It's a cute show, warm and fuzzy for the holiday season. I would consider the role of Clarence, the angel trying to earn his wings by helping out George, to be another major role. I'm not sure Mary Bailey is a big enough role for someone like Megan Hilty.

If I were a producer, I'd be considering casting three full-time cast members for Freddie the host and the man and woman who play Clarence et al and "all the women," then cast a different star as George and Mary every night. It's 95% on-book, so you could do that.

I know this will be categorized as a play revival (this adaptation is widely produced regionally), but the Tonys should really consider bringing back the unique theatrical event category.

Y'all have GOT to let Jellicle Ball go. It didn't make enough money. It's closing was not a grand scheme against queer people. It did not make enough money. It's time to move on.

Anyway. What a fantastic cast for this. Lisa Rinna getting her wish to be back on Broadway. Count me among those who do think she could pull of Mary if given the chance too.
