The Great Big Stuff

According to Gregory Jbara website: http://www.gregoryjbara.com/tonynom2005.html

Norbert Leo Butz quotes about John Lithgow: "He's really clumsy. One of the joys in life is to watch a great big huge man totally wipe out backstage. It takes John about three minutes to hit the floor. It's like watching a Great Sequoia falling gracelessly."

Looks like the are putting John and Greg in the number. Why not Sherie, Joanna, and everyone else?

YESH! Not "Dirty Rotten Number" (personal fave), but a good one! Go Norbert!

1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

That's great. I was hoping they'd let Norbert do this song at the Tonys.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

I'm actually quite shocked! I was 100% sure they'd do Dirty Rotten Number (+ reprise) since they could have Sherie and John and Norbie all together. Seems like alot of set and props to take over for Great Big Stuff since the whole number comes out of him seeing the opulence of the house. It's definitely a good showcase for Norbert though, which is *always* a good thing.

Surprised at the choice....but thrilled :) I keep that song on repeat on my computer :) "Get me a posse, aiiighht?" hee hee. I laugh *every time*.

I was wondering that Who decide that the performance song will be the Great Big Stuff.
Because if the whole cast has a vote or something then John was more than generous to let Norbert win the night.

Lithgow and Jbara are on stage during that number, so I don't think they are really adding them. Unfortunatly not all shows work in a way that every member of the cast can be showcased.

The producers of the show work with the producers of the telecast to find something that showcases the piece well (they pay a lot just to perform on the show, something like $150,000, so they've gotta look good) and is about the right length (according to the producers of the telecast). It's a complicated process that takes them weeks to settle upon.

I have sent an e-mail to Gregory Jbara and guess: He answered. He is such a nice guy, he wrote that to me (with some personal note that I won't show:)

"In answer to your question, the entire creative team (O'Brien, Mitchell, Yazbek, Lane & Bell) made the decision as to which number would be performed at the Tonys. The cast actually had no say at all. Earlier in the week there was consideration of doing GREAT BIG STUFF without John and me as in the show. But now the number will be performed as is with the exception of a few time saving cuts."

Isn't it cool, or what???

You'd think they'd pick a song that showcased the nominees, I mean we know norberts gonna win regardless.
