I was planning on taking my 10 year old grand kids to Jersey Boys but I have been told it may not be suitable for children of that age.

A friend who has not seen the show tells me it depicts a sex and drug orgy in which Frankie Valli and the other members of the band take part. I have not read anything about such a scene anywhere else. And the vast majority of comments indicate this is a "must see" show.

I just need to know if it is ok to share a night at Jersey Boys with my 10 year old grandchildren....I plan to go in any event!

According to your profile you posted in a thread 4 days ago that you saw it and you'd highly recommend it to other and you plan to see it again.

Hey there...

Well, there's hardly an orgy, it is just a little bit of kissing and thats it. ALl though there is just a little bit of drug use.

The thing i would worry about is the language, being set in jersey and all, the is a great deal of cursing.

If you're okay with the cursing, then i'd say take the kids, if not, go at it alone

Just make sure to cover their eyes during the scene that takes place one night, late december back in '63.

I saw it last night and I would say NO. I have a 10 yo and wouldn't take her to see it. The "orgy" scene isn't quite that but LOTS of f-bombs and drug/gambling/women type issues.

In addition, unless any 10 yo knows the music, they would probably be bored. I think this is geared towards a close to 40 and up crowd.

Legibus disabling your profile was a smart move but that does not remove your conflicting messages from the system. Come back and tell us how your first post in this thread coexists with these two. (your only two posts, by the way) Something fishy is afoot.

The PlayBill lists nine musicians in the "Jersey Boys Orchestra" who are not part of the cast.

The cast consists of 13 actors, the majority of which (including all the principal actors playing the original members of the Four Seasons) play insrtuments.

The sound is AWESOME. I hear that Bob Gaudio, the writer of most of the group's hits, and original group member, was involved in assuring the vocal and instrumental performances in the show were as original... (more...)

re: Jersey Boys - First Preview - Legibus Oct 14, 10:52 AM
I SIMPLY LOVED JERSEY BOYS.......and I have never been a Four Seasons Fan (before seeing Jersey Boys, that is). And I am NOT from New Jersey (and can guarantee you I will NEVER be from New Jersey).

It is just a wonderful night at the theatre. Everything worked for me!!! And apparently just about everyone else in the audience felt the same way..

Multiple show stopping applause and standing ovations....IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAY!!!! I NEVER experienced anythi... (more...)

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Yes I do owe an apology to those on this board, but I am hardly a schill.

I have already stated elsewhere as pointed out by you and others that I saw the show and liked it as stated. But I also was concerned with the language used as I said in that prior post:
Namely,

".. I do feel they could cut out some of the cuss words in the one scene where four-letter words are used in rapid fire order even though it probably is a very accurrate (and, I must admit, funny) depictation of how those characters actually talked (being would be wise-guys in training a la the Sopranos). This would vastly broaden the potential audience by opening it up to an younger audience."

Hardly the language of a schill: But I should have been more forthcoming: I believe my particular grand kids probably can handle the language in Jersey Boys (although I wish it was not there). But I was concerned how others interpreted the scene where a "funny" cigarette is being passed around and the Gaudio character is introduced to "off-stage" sex.

My daughter is involved in a child custody dispute and actually objection to my taking therse kids to the show was expressed not because of the language but because her soon to be-ex said there was an orgy scene not suitable for his kids to see based on what he heard from others.

I didn't feel there was any merit to this at all, and I personallty thought the scene actually was very low-key and did not emphasis or promote drugs in any way. But I did want objective views from others and I thought if I said I saw the play, the answers would be use your own judgment since you saw it yourself.

Pretty stupid of me, I have to admit.

Once again, I do sincerely apologize to all and I hope it does not detract from my high regard for this show (or the people of this board) or prevent others from judging it for themselves and forming their own opinions.

I'd say no (saw it last night with wife) - due to language especially. Ten is too young. I don't think it's appropriate for a ten year old. Wife and I thought it wsa great though!!!

Legibus, it really sounds like with all those extenuating circumstances going to this show is not the best plan. It seems like it would make a difficult situation worse, and I still must say you are the one who knows your family, especially these ten year olds, having seen the show you are the one who would best know how it effects the.

I believe under the circumstances, you are correct.

And after reading some of the comments here about the language (including my own). I don't know what I was thinking in even considering taking my 10-year olds (nearly 11) to see this show.

Poor judgment on my part all around.

Thanks to all for putting this into proper prospective for me. And I certainly dont want to cause any more of a problem for my daughter for no reason at all.

Thanks again for the valuable input.

I'm lucky my family didn't shelter me from the "real" world growing up....I think it made me less frightened of people and their ways...but then again I grew up around people like Frankie Valli and his friends...hell they're like my family.

Plus the scene where someone gets shot and blood pours out of his mouth..... Not very good for a 10 year old....

Okay then...I hope people who feel this way about taking their kids to see Jersey Boys...DON'T even consider taking them to see "RENT" then.

It's still odd that given your acknowledgement of previous posts, your original message on here included: "A friend who has not seen the show tells me it depicts a sex and drug orgy in which Frankie Valli and the other members of the band take part. I have not read anything about such a scene anywhere else. If you'd seen the show already, you wouldn't have needed to read about such a scene, you'd have seen it yourself.

Anyway, no, probably not the best show for a 10-year-old.

Rent was fine, but there are lots of other shows that a 10 year old would love - Chitty?

So 2 men and 2 women kissing is fine for a 10 year old to see...a sex orgy under a sheet is okay too...but the "F" word is just too much for a 10 year old. I'm just trying to figure out what is appropriate for this age group.

Avenue Q? It's all puppets and fun, just like Sesame Street.

Ave Q is also a bit much for a 10 year old. There are LOTS of shows appropriate for 10 year olds... Lion King/Beauty and the Beast/Chitty/Wicked.... Then lots more to see as they get older.

I agree with what is being said. I wouldn't recommend CHICAGO for a 10 year old along with Q, Rent, DRS, Producers, etc.

There are definitely some great shows for kids. Heck SWEET CHARITY is very family friendly, and there is nothing like introducing a kid to one of the BEST Broadway scores.

(I was kidding about Avenue Q. The song titles alone are at least PG-13!)

I'd recommend Sweet Charity as well - at the very least, to see the wonderful Christina Applegate really earn her pay!

I honestly think it all depends on the particular child and what they've already been exposed to in their lives.
