They really need to hurry up. Time is running out, and I'm feeling less optimistic about this happening.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:09pmNot getting my hopes up. I've heard most of the ensemble has other commitments. I hope I'm wrong.

I was actually expecting an announcement this morning, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If it wasn't happening, you could be fairly certain that an announcement saying the rumour was NOT true would have been posted by now (producers would want to nip that in the bud should it be affecting people waiting to purchase tickets in lieu of an extension).
Peters does have a concert scheduled the week of June 23rd so I was hearing a start date for the new stars of the week after. Its entirely possible that producers may be waiting to announce until they know for certain if the show will go dark for a week or perhaps if Zeta Jones or Lansbury may extend. It seems incredibly unlikely that the show would play for an entire week with both understudies for the stars on.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:17pm^ Good points. I feel like it's Stritch who is holding them up right now. Updated On: 6/2/10 at 01:17 PM

Taylor, I'm sure they could find replacements for the ensemble in a heartbeat. I know I'd audition in a millisecond

Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:25pmPossibly, but despite the fun we've had with it, I don't think she's put up strange demands. I really think its Bernadette's schedule - i.e. rescheduling concerts and confirming dates she will be off that needs to be worked out before tickets can go on sale.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:27pmVery true. If Stritch does end up declining, do you think they will continue with Bernadette and look for another Madame?
#12A little Night Music from June 22 !!!
Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:28pmI don't think Stritch is going to decline.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 1:36pmIf Stritch feels she can dothe show, I'm sure she realizes that thi (sadly) might be one of her last chances to get a high profile role in a Broadway musical.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 2:02pm^ Good point, but I can't imagine she's thrilled she wasn't asked to play it the first time around and now has to replace Angela Lansbury.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 2:05pmYou either want to work or you don't. If she were that offended she would have said so to the New York Times. Stritch doesn't mince words.
#17A little Night Music from June 22 !!!
Posted: 6/2/10 at 2:29pmI could see them going dark for a week, or having understudies. God of Carnage went on Haitus last year before returning, although that was with the whole original cast, not for replacements.

No one is going to pay to see Jayne Paterson and Karen Murphy together. That would be sleep inducing. I saw both and they were fine, but that would be the biggest bore if they were together for a week.
I can certainly see them taking a one week hiatus.

I agree, I certainly wouldn't buy a ticket, and I can't think of anyone who would. Having seen them both too, I have to say I thought they were lovely. Unfortunately this is a show that only exists on star casting.
I wonder though, how much one week on Haitus would cost, holding the theatre, not paying actors/crew and no gross, versus one week with understudies, with some gross. Which would lose less money?

Posted: 6/2/10 at 2:57pmMaybe they can offer cheaper tickets that week. I'd definitely go; multiple times even if the price is right.

"I don't think Stritch is going to decline"
Of course they won't decline! These 2 women are probably tired of not working.

"So, Elaine Stritch came to my school last Thursday to observe and guest teach one of the MT classes. She wound up saying this in regards to this topic:
"Yes, I was offered the role. And I'm looking forward to turning it down.""
