Not to turn this into a thread all about him, but Paul Wontorek is a grade A creep. Lots of his Show People interviews with "Broadway hunks" get so nasty and uncomfortable, especially his lust for Aaron Tveit. And many of his interviews consist of him reading credits from actors' Wikipedia pages and having them respond, rather then delving into actual questions. And while he may not always state his opinions outright, any contempt of his shines right through the things he says, in terms of which shows get his attention and how he talks about shows/people.
I'm going to ignore the above poster entirely. I'm sorry, but we don't need more negativity around here and I personally don't feel the need to defend or attack a person I don't know.
Anyone who's seen Carrie's Sofia - how is she? And who usually covers her Church Lady #1 track when she's out/playing Sofia?
Compere's Sofia is very good. She plays it with more seriousness and less comedic edge than Danielle did, when I saw her over the summer, but it worked well. She's a very good Sofia.
I don't remember who was Church Lady #1 when she was on, unfortunately.
Interesting. The book and movie Sofia are both extremely serious, so I was impressed with Danielle's take on it. Made the "broken down" scene very effective for me. And Compere is a hoot as Church Lady from a comedic standpoint, so I assumed (God knows why) that would carry over to her Sofia.
Carrie Compere's Church Lady is one of my favorite parts of The Color Purple, but her Sophia was not my favorite. She plays it a little too dark, so it doesn't match with the overall direction of the show (or perhaps I'm just comparing it to Danielle's).
Carla Stewart's Sophia, however, was even better than Danielle's in my opinion, she was a joy to watch and her comedic parts never felt forced, she was SO into it. I thought she would have taken over Danielle if need be, I wish I could see Carla as Sophia again.
On a related note, any updates on whether the show will close or not? It's still only selling through January 8, which is almost just two months away. They have to be announcing something soon...
What's the likelihood of the show going out on tour?
I bought a pair of Jan 8 tickets just in case. I have been looking out like a hawk for a sign myself. Bandstand's transfer announcement (with limited Shubert houses available), Holliday's contracted date, Broadway.com's apparent "slip-up" during the linked episode above, Compere being bumped up instead of them getting a more popular actress to replace Danielle - are all saying closing is coming. Maybe?

If you mean immediately, like right after January 8, unlikely.

I saw the show a little under 2 weeks ago, and I was looking at the new souvenir programs at the merch booth featuring Headley and not Hudson. The guy working the booth told me that, despite Holliday's photo shoot, they're not printing another version, which makes sense. When I brought up the January closing rumors he agreed that it's a possibility. Obviously he's not a very credible source at all, but he didn't deny it.

It is looking increasingly likely that COLOR PURPLE will close in January and BANDSTAND will take the Jacobs this Spring.

Extremely. Troika will be managing the tour next season.

Cfried, we predicted that last week.
I highly doubt we will see a tour of this production, unless Erivo for some reason decides she'd want to go out of the road. (And that doesn't seem likely). Whereas the pageantry of the original production seemed designed for large, impersonal road houses, the intimate power of this production would be positively lost in those giant barns.

^ that's not stopping the producers from sending it on tour
There are no official plans for a tour at this time, so I'm not sure what you're talking about
