PHANTOM is the American version of Phantom of the Opera, it is bloodier and more grusome. I read the script it looks pretty good.

And has a more hauntingly beautiful score in my opinion.

"Cud" is for cows. I think the word you're aiming for is "could."

Moo with the cows.

My school had it for some reason, so i read it one day. I think you can order it from Samuel French.

I was just imagining a student version of RENT. Everyone has the flu and they have to take breaks for cough syrup!

Honestly, I think RENT could be done just as well at colleges as on Broadway. I know lots of people my age that have the chops to pull it off. I think this play could have very interesting director's concepts and sets and stuff. Broadway isn't the end all of musical stagings.

According to a friend at MTI, Rent is nowhere near being available for regional and/or community. Because of the movie and extended touring plans the earliest availability is 2008.

" For just some reason, I can't picture RENT being done anywhere besides the Nederlander." aigoo

aigoo, Rent has been performed at hundreds of theatres other than the Nederlander in the past nine years, and arguably, better. re: Rent Rights Out by 2006?

As for the rights being released in the U.S. anytime soon, I wouldn't recommend holding your breath.

How can they be doing Les Mis if the rights are not available? Unless it's the student version. MTI has not yet announced an adult version.

The rights to RENT will not be available for a while. It's still doing good business at the Nederlander, and once the movie comes out, I'm sure it will bump the ticket sales. Even Phantom, who's movie didn't get the best reviews or sales, got a boost from the movie. I would be very surprised if they were released. I would be even more surprised if they put out a student version of the show. A "student version" leads one to believe that it would be suitable for high school audiences, but I don't think many high schools would allow all the drug references, sexual innuendo (and blatant sexuality), swearing, and gender-switches (drag queens, gays, etc.). If I were a principal I would totally allow it, but I know that at my old high school it would never happen.
