I am DYING at that Band's Visit one. Sore. Katrina looks like an elderly Cruella De Ville with scoliosis and a slipping wig made out of a mop.

I'm dying over how accurate this is.
I'm not sure there's money in it, but it would be nice to have another caricaturist in the mix. Does anyone know of someone in the fan art community who covers a lot of the shows and not just Hamilton?

MY BWW avatar is Ken Fallin's Bette as Dolly. I love it. But I hate Bernadette's and most of his other caricatures. As soon as the show closes on Broadway, and I think it will sooner rather than later, I'm going back to my previous Lucy photo. I'll keep Bette now for luck.

I was at the NYPL to see the Leonard Bernstein exhibit. Looking at a couple of Hirschfelds makes you realize just how bad Squiggs and Fallin are.

What? Is the style he used for Katrina Lenk and Alison Luff a new thing he's committing to or does he just want to insult all the Broadway leading ladies that he can? Lisa Howard is the only one who made it out of the caricature looking decent.

All things considered, not the worst. I think it definitely helps that Margaritaville is on the same page of this thread. Chris Evans is the only one that's inexplicable. 3/4 ain't bad. I mean, the composition and poses are nonsense but in terms of recognizable caricatures, it's fine.

I feel bad for anyone working in the shadow of Al Hirschfeld, but Fallin's work is pretty stiff outside of his simple one-person works. Once you move beyond the face, you don't find any of the wry fluidity and visual rhythm that made Hirschfeld's work so vibrant - there's no sense of an opinionated whole or subjective observation. What's funny is he's clearly capable of doing quite adequate work, but then he goes and throws up something so clumsy and juvenile that it's kind of shocking - I'd expect the Hello Dolly piece from a middle-schooler still getting the hang of drawing fingers, not a professional who's done decades of art.

I am just surprised that someone who has been doing this as long as Fallin thinks that drawing these caricatures separately and then assembling them on a solid color background in the most amateurish use of Photoshop looks good.
Drawing an actual scene or splash page would be so much more effective. But Fallin genuinely does not seem to want to capture a sense of movement or action.

That exhibit is wonderful and it was so nice to see those Hirshfield's up close and in person.
