Who is the actress that was the mother character in the Jennifer Hudson show? Was it Brenda Braxton?
No it's Sheryl Ralph and she's recurring during Hudson's arc.
Nice back shot of the Liberty Theatre while Derek was talking to the red headed chorus girl.
It was lucky that the bartender happened to have an entire stack of Playbills from the show under the bar.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is playing Hudson's "real" life mother, not the mother character in the stage show (which I still believe was Brenda Braxton). Anyone else know?
Sheryl Lee Ralph is Lauryn Hill's mother, NOT Jennifer Hudson's.
Yes it's Brenda Braxton
The Mary Testa-Jackie Hoffman-Cheyenne Jackson- Harvey Fierstein made me so freaking happy. Also, love seeing Wes and Krysta together is great :)
I feel like that is the 5th time this week I saw Margo Martindale on my TV (I am also including her bit part in The Rocketeer).

What the F**K was that song in the bar?! I'm completely baffled.
EVERYONE IS JUST ACTING CIRCLE AROUND DEAD EYES.
Very weak. One new original song in the first two epsiodes? And what's with the Will & Grace storyline? The show feels like it's in its 8th season and grapsing for straws.
That exterior scene from the party was embarrassing for McPhee. Flat, flat, flat.
Ivy is my antidote.
I thought we were up to three original songs?
There are not enough songs in this second episode, original or otherwise. I'm at 32 min and only one song.

Well, I made it through the first hour, and that's my schlock limit for the week. I thought this was supposed to be better. Lots of name dropping, musical arrangements that sound like GLEE, and not a scintilla of genuine emotion. Loved the Jeremy Jordan song - that's about it.
One original song?!? The past 2 hours have been PACKED with originals!! Cut, Print, Moving On, Jennifer Hudson's song, Broadway Here I Come, the song by McPhee at the party, and now They Just Keep Moving the Line.

Not the SCARVES!
The highlight of the last two hours came at an hour and 55 minutes in, with that scarf joke. Updated On: 2/5/13 at 10:52 PM
Was the song Iowa sang in BK a Joe Iconis number?
Even if it was original it sounded like a bland cover, and this is coming from a HUGE Iconis fan (if it was his work).
I really was hoping this would be a lot more Gossip Girl-y
