Now, what are the chances of them recording their performances like they did for Brooke Shields in Wonderful Town and Vanessa Williams in Spider Woman?
I've been a fan of Bernadette's since she played the stepmother in "Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" and when she voiced Sophie in "Anastasia" and Rita on "Animaniacs." I'm so happy she is returning to Broadway!
How dare you call Bernadette and Elaine stunt casting? These are two Broadway pros who are eminently suited to these roles, taking over the leads in a well-reviewed, successful show. They're not some TV stars dropped in to save a dying show.
I would have love to have seen Peters take over the Zeta-Jones role ealy so her performace would have overlapped with Landsbury before Stretch came on.
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
Wow, love the Stritch quotes, love how she's basically admitting that she's not even sure if she's right for the part but she's gonna do her best. I love it and love her. Thanks for posting the article, Ljay, it was great reading Bernadette's thoughts on the whole thing and of course as usual, it's another genius idea from Stephen Sondheim. I never thought I'd see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch play mother-daughter. I actually never thought I'd see Stritch in an actual role on stage, I thought she was more or less retired, it's great to see her back in the game. I will definitely be there.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
