I've never posted a review on here before. And before I do I should make note that I had no interest in seeing the new musical Hot Mess in Manhattan, in fact I was dreading it. I think "new musical" composers are not writing anything of value and most of it is very self important drivel.
I loved the show. so funny original and distinct in its voice. Its really great. Several new composers each wrote a song and they were at the top of their games, (maybe cause they only had to write one song and not an endless song cycle) GO GO GO GO see this show its this week and next week. Its great if you like 30 rock, sex and the city or new musical theater. Really great.
I do wish the lead hadn't asked to donate to the show because they were in the red....that bothered me.
RSO, Kerrigan and Lowdermilk, Gregor and Carner, etc etc....I just really hate that self important monologue-y "im so quirky, look how quirky i am oh no i have white girl problems" song writing that generally has no tune and is BAD Jason Robert Brown.
Also not a shill if I was a shill I'd tell you to see Newsies. But I won't do that. Just enjoyed the show. arse
It literally looks like you bought a "How to Shill" pamphlet and just filled in the blanks.

But if you must know the reallly ironic part, it's not even the "review" section that completely gives it away. It's the first and last sentence.

And yet, that's exactly what HOT MESS IN MANHATTAN is about...and yet you still loved it?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

i saw it....actually really enjoyed it. very funny and the songs were very tight fit well with the story despite being written by a bunch of different people. really solid show.
