Yes it's official A one man Othello which takes place on a southern slave plantation circa 1818. Harvey Fierstein will be playing all the roles including Othello, Desdemona, Iago, and Emilia. Jeff Richards and Ken Davenport produce.
My one man Brooklyn will leave you in stitches. There's a heart behind these hands and it's not afraid to use a machine gun guitar. It can go in rep with darquegk's Rocky Horror.
My one-man Rocky Horror has an all star cast, all shoddily impersonated by me.
Alison Brie as Janet Jim Carrey as Brad Denis O'Hare as Jessica Lange as Frank Rod Serling as the Narrator Alan Cumming as Riff Raff Greta Garbo as Magenta Judy Garland as Columbia Brian D'Arcy James as Eddie Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove as Dr. Scott Elvis Presley as Rocky
with a special appearance by Sir Elton John as the Lips
"Actually, I don't think a one-man Othello on a Southern plantation is a bad idea."
It is defiantly a bad idea. Have you ever read the play? An African American slave on a southern plantation and an Arab Moor military leader in Venice just doesn't make sense to bring together on stage. At some point it would come across as just offensive.

Aside from the obvious fact a production will come across as being "Where da white women at?", it doesn't make sense. Othello isn't a low status character. He's very high-status. He's the peer of the other men and frequently their better.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Maybe Othello can be the head slave and since its 1812 why not make Desdemona black? Besides.. it's all in his mind at some mental institution so anything goes. Plus somehow Harvey Fierstein will make it work.
