Don't know if there is another thread about this, but I'd love to see a stage adaption of Moulin Rogue. With Sierra Boggess as Satine and someone like Steve Kazee or Aaron Tveit as Christian. What are your thoughts?
YES!! That is one spectacular movie.
But Baz has to direct!

Seems like something Julie Taymor would do.
I'm not that familiar with her work aside from the Lion King, which I loved. Can she pull of glamorous?
It would be a brilliant show, but licensing the score would be a nightmare. Also, it would have to be Baz. This isn't Julie. I'm sorry, but it's just not.
Seems like Sierra Boggess is the go-to actress for every female role out there. Let's be more original, dahlings!!!
I'm surprised that Moulin Rouge hasn't been done for Broadway yet. Especially since it started a new era for movie musicals.

I think Satine would be a good role for Sierra to get out of the Princess/Les Mis/phantom phase she's in. But I can be more original. Betsy Wolfe or Jennifer Damiano for Santine?
Sierra would be lovely as Satine!
I'd like to see Marion Cotillard in the role.
It's a nice though, but I really don't see it working on stage.
If it was done well, and they can license all those songs, this show could be something magical. I love the story.

I think it could be good. It'd be interesting to see how they try recreate the frenetic, chaotic pace and atmosphere of the movie without the benefit of splashy editing
Actually, I hope they leave out the frantic/fast pace. That's one of the things I didn't like about Moulin Rogue. The sets and costumes were beautiful, but you could never have a chance to admire it without the crazy editing getting in the way.
I would totally lose my cool and be thrilled if this happened. But Baz would have to direct.
I feel like Laura Benanti as Satine and Norbert Leo Butz as Zidler would be awesome.
Baz was trying to adapt this for the Las Vegas stage at the height of the film's popularity but ended after he couldn't get Kidman and MacGregor for the stage show.
It has been on stage and toured Germany.
I'd like to see Ramin as Chiristian.
Barry Luhrman's movie was a mess... a stage musical directed by him would be a disaster.
You mean...
...like this?
^ Exactly! His production of La Boheme was among the very best opera performances we've ever seen. The man should do musical theater more often since it's obviously in his bones (as well as his brilliant wife's bones-- the design for Boheme was one of the most beautiful sets ever put on a broadway stage.)
MOULIN ROUGE screams to be on Broadway. I'd love to see it happen.

It needs to happen! Maybe Megan Hilty?
I hope they raise the keys for Satine.

Might work if the 'environmental' aspect were included like when Cabaret was at Studio 54 with the small tables with lights on them along with the performers mingling with the audience at the appropriate moments to give the feeling that we are "in" the Moulin Rouge.
I just wonder how logistically possible it is to secure the stage rights for all of the music used in the movie for a Broadway production. And if it were to use an original score, how you would replace the very iconic moments like the Elephant Love Song Medley.
You need someone like Marion Cotillard to scare up the money. (And I think she'd be perfect. You do need a truly sexy woman for that role.)
I think the score could use a little tinkering and probabbly some original songs.
