Thief of Hearts is a really good Madonna song.

If this is live, I definitely think it's one of Madonna's better tv performances (not saying too much...) I love the Sondheim songs for Dick. Apparently he made her cry hile he was trying to teach her to sing the songs.

What in the world do these two performances have to do with each other? One singing a pseudo-torch song from a comic book movie and the other singing a Rodgers & Hammerstein medley from a Broadway musical. I seem to be missing the connection somehow.

I don't get it either, Wilmington. For some strange, deluded people the success of one particular female celebrity apparently negates the success of another. Seems healthy.

When it comes to tribalism, Shias & Sunnis have nothing on Gaga gays & Madge gays.

Since we're not all gay, would it be fitting for me to suggest that it's on between Gaga stans and & Madge stans, political correctness be damnedMadonna at the 1991 Oscars

What in the world do these two performances have to do with each other?

The fact that they were fated to bitchy comparison by "fans" the day Gaga was announced to perform on the Oscars. It was as predictable as the chart placement of a newly released Madonna album (with ZERO promotion!). And the performance quality just as irrelevant. It doesn't matter who did what or how well. The result is always the same.

That is exactly right, Mister Matt.

So when Gaga was announced, people automatically thought back to a Madonna performance from 24 years ago? I still don't get it.

Gaga ---> Oscar performance <--- Madonna

Anything Madonna and Gaga do or share in common will be compared by the usual suspects.

What's not to get? As soon as I saw the performance, I thought, "Madonna fans are going to be LIVID!" I knew that Sooner or Later video would pop up ASAP. Surprised it took so long to happen on BWW.

I'll have to take your word for it, Matt. The corrolation between the 56 year old whose career has spanned over 30 years and the 28 year old whose career took off about seven years ago escapes me. Yes, they both sang at the Oscars but so have scores of other women.

I have to say as Madonna fan that i didnt even think about Madonna when Gaga was announced for the Oscars, i really don't think any Madonna fan did, that's just kinda daft.

I didn't say it makes sense. I said the comparison is driven by fan rivalry and has existed for years now. This existence of this thread is evidence of that.

i really don't think any Madonna fan did, that's just kinda daft.

Is that the patented After Eight collective consciousness?

My OP might've been a little harsh, as I love both performers.

Oh you weren't offering Gaga a tasty snack and linking a 24 year old clip to celebrate Gaga's performance?

I believe after this unfortunate performance Madonna was heard to say backstage "I felt like a retard".

Wow. It wasn't backstage that she said it. She said it to Regis.
