Well, exile island with Boston Rob and Sandra is here!! Who asked for it? Likely no one, but here we go. Im not sure how I feel about this twist, but I think other than giving contestants idols/advantages it shoudnt change the game up too much. Cast seems interesting and diverse based on bios and background, so I am intrigued for that. Anyone else plan to watch next Wednesday?
I'll be watching, but I'm way more excited about the season that will follow. I just get a bit weary of the limitless idols and gimmicks. The way Cirie went out the last time she played never should have happened. I'm still bitter about that.

Yep, totally agree. The show only seems to be about idols and advantages now. They can be part of the show, but when they are the focus? Who really cares?
Episode was more fun than I expected, but I hated the actual Island Of The Idols segment. Felt so forced which is usually the best thing about Survivor, it feels natural. I hated that, but man the reactions from Rob and Sandra at tribal were low-key fun. Love SDT saying "I don't f'ing care I vote out anyone". As long as the actual island doesn't take too much time away I'm fine with this idea for 1 season when they've been on for 20 years. Rooting for Elaine and Janet big time!
I thought it was a strong beginning to the new season. I actually think I like the new twist. Interesting that they voted out a potentially strong comp player so early. They’re looking at the long game, for sure. Whether, that adversely affects their short game remains to be seen.
I couldn’t help but thinking when whatsherface lied about what happened on the island, how that was going to come back and bite her in the ass big time. If everyone knows someone’s sent there every week then why lie about it when it’s obviously going to be revealed.
I thought the casting was good although there was a lack of male eye candy. Nothing against the two returnees but I did not care for the concept. It did not contribute much.
I haven't watched religiously since I was an elementary/middle school kid and the show was in the zeitgeist, but a lot of people in my family do. Based on what they've said, it's become less of a reality show and more of a highly specialized sport/competition, since after twenty years people have 90% of the information on how Survivor works and runs, and are entering the show not as "the real world" representatives but as people who really want to "play the game."
That's one thing I remember: that "playing the game" was a pejorative term in the early days, but it's now assumed.
I enjoyed the first episode more than I expected. I think the twist is interesting (and I knew exactly how that first visit was going to go down...newbies are often predictably stupid). And I loved that first tribal. It's refreshing to see so many using their brains at the start of the game.

That was ridiculous. Everybody's going to know what occurs on that island rather quickly. She could lie about the lesson she was given and the task result, but to lie about what's on the island is just going to put a huge target on her at a point when literally everyone on your tribe is trying to figure out how to come together on pegging a target for tribal. What a dumbass.

Not sure about that move for the girls alliance last night. I think Vince would've been loyal to the merge at least. However, I can understand wanting to keep Dean and Aaron out of the loop on the girls thing a little longer, so may as well vote with them this one time. Still loving this season though, Sandra teaching Vince the army crawl was hysterical and Rob clearly felt the same way
I haven't watched 'Survivor' in years, but had to take a double look at the thread title. I thought it said "Survivor: Island of the Idiots" and thought to myself, "WOW! That's a bold move in attracting contestants and viewers this season!"
As much as I liked Vince, he was an idiot. You're the only male in a strong five female alliance and you just blew a puzzle challenge that led to tribal. You're a target. Use the freaking idol, that's only good for two councils.
Um..... NOURA!!!!! One of the most entertaining characters of all time. Yet, I also find her incredibly endearing. I really hope she sticks around. Another great blindside this week too! No one is safe this season!

Agreed!!!! He deserved to go after making such a rookie mistake....
Wonderful episode last evening. Just great Survivor on so many levels. Elaine is a terrific character. The Jamal and Jack scene was handled with perfection in my opinion, partially because Jamal is one of the best characters/story tellers the show has had recently. Also, great blindside. Doesn't get much better than last night.
